The most feel-good collaboration of the summer has just been born! The long-awaited collaboration between Nigerian designer Kenneth Ize and the Karl Lagerfeld brand is ready to hit the shelves from Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

The gender-neutral collection will be available on the brand’s website, on Farfetch, Browns’ online store, and in the physical stores of Saint Germain in Paris and Regent Street in London.

In June 2020, the Maison Karl Lagerfeld announced Kenneth as its first Black designer collaborator. Now, their first collaborative effort curated by Carine Roitfeld, style advisor for the Paris-based brand, is set to be revealed.

About the collection

The collection of predominantly “gender-neutral” pieces is presented in a black and white palette characteristic of the brand, with hints of bright colors. The connection to Kenneth Ize’s work is evident in the inspiration drawn from the traditional Aso oke fabric. All of the fabrics used in the accessories are sourced from Nigeria, where the Kenneth Ize brand is based.

Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld, indicates that the collaboration with Kenneth Ize was born because Kenneth shares Karl Lagerfeld’s “vision of innovation, craftsmanship, quality, and authenticity.” Lagerfeld design director Hun Kim also worked with Kenneth on what is considered a “sophisticated intersection of two worlds” to produce “a vibrant celebration of culture and exquisite design.”

About Kenneth Ize’s work

Kenneth Ize is distinguished by his authentic creations that showcase traditional African craftsmanship and some of the textiles of Nigeria. The designer has always been known to use the aso oke fabric––indigenous to the Yoruba people of West Africa––and which is based on a weaving technique dating back several centuries.

We can’t wait to see how the designs will marry the chic Parisian style of Karl Lagerfeld and the traditional Nigerian craftsmanship of Kenneth Ize.
