Last Week’s Best Dressed Stars Were Easy On The Details And Loud On Impact

T

he weekend preceding the Met Gala is always an interesting time for fashion. Interesting looks are churned out, perhaps dress rehearsals for the main event. The feathers, sequins, luxe fabrics, and irregular proportions are let out for either reactions or test runs. Last week was not an exception. Red carpet events like the 2024 Kings Trust Global Gala hosted an array of stars who showed off their fashion skill set with much gusto.

The Looks

Last week, the models gave an approving nod to lacy textures and calm tints. Anok Yai wore a Dior dress with tiered fringe details that were undoubtedly elegant. The spaghetti strap exposed her melanin skin, fiercely popping on purpose. Elsewhere, Naomi Campbell opted for a blush Nicolas Jebran number for a garden wedding in France. The off-the-shoulder frock held a flowy sheer train with a corseted waistline for the snatched effect. This is proof that minimal and clean girl aesthetics are winning this spring.

Owning a solid suit isn’t up for debate. Ciara and Lupita Nyong’o made further case for its efficacy in any closet last week. From the obvious office wear to star-studded events, work your way up with proportions and an apt color choice in the suiting game. Ciara rocked an all-white suit to the Jhpiego Laughter is the Best Medicine gala, where she was recognized with the Visionary Award. She styled hers with a sleek coat, white pumps, and statement sunglasses. We can simply say  Cici is dedicated to stepping on necks. Elsewhere, Lupita Nyong’o took the delicate baby pink route with her suit. She played it up with a statement De Beers necklace, and white pumps, and side parted her short haircut during press rounds for A Quiet Place.

Beyoncé took on Japan with Jay-Z in a full-on denim look by LaPointe. Featuring a sheer bodysuit styled with denim shorts and a fur-sleeved denim coat, Queen Bey showed another witty way to play the cowgirl aesthetic card. Her thigh-high Amina Muaddi boots complemented the denim and sheer combo. While everyone wants to know if Bey would attend the Met, she’s out in Japan brewing up new concepts. The queen never takes a day off.
