3 Simple Ways To Incorporate Pantone’s Color Of The Year 2021 Into Your Life

For 2021, Pantone has chosen the colors of the year as ‘Ultimate Gray’ and ‘Illuminating’ with the codes PANTONE 17-5104 and PANTONE 13-0647 respectively. Pantone noted that this is a marriage of the colors gray and yellow conveys a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting. How apt after the crazy year we’ve had in 2020.

But the choice of two colors is quite interesting as the brand typically chooses one color as the color of the year, like its 2020 choice of Classic Blue, 2019 choice of Living Coral, and 2018 choice of Ultra Violet. But are we really surprised? Nothing about 2020 has been predictable or usual.

According to the brand,

“As people look for ways to fortify themselves with energy, clarity, and hope to overcome the continuing uncertainty, spirited and emboldening shades satisfy our quest for vitality.”

“Illuminating is a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power. Ultimate Gray is emblematic of solid and dependable elements that are everlasting and provide a firm foundation. The colors of pebbles on the beach and natural elements whose weathered appearance highlights an ability to stand the test of time, Ultimate Gray quietly assures, encouraging feelings of composure, steadiness, and resilience.”

“The selection of two independent colors highlights how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person, it’s about more than one. The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted, this is essential to the human spirit.”

“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer,” added Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to symbolize thoughts and ideas, many designers and brands are embracing the language of color to engage and connect.”

Since yellow and gray are not the most popular color combinations, we wanted to show you three simple ways you can incorporate these contemporary hues into your life. Think fashion, beauty, and living!

Check out 3 easy ways to incorporate Pantone 2021 color of the year into your life…

#1. Fashion

Pantone’s 2021 shade of yellow is something like bumble yellow while the gray is something like classic or carbon gray. First, take a look at your closet to see what you have in those colors and start with those. You can consider shopping for pieces in those shades to complement what you have in either color. Pair yellow top and gray pants or vice versa. Gray shirt and yellow skirt or the reverse. Now, how about a yellow dress and a grey purse + silver shoes? Girl, Pantone would be proud!

#2. Beauty. Pantone 2021 color of the year.

If you’re not one for bright nails, you can wear your traditional neutral colors and have a simple design done with yellow and gray nail polish or try outline nails with gray outlines and a yellow outline on one fingernail for a Pantone-approved look. If bold nails were made for you, the Inspo above is only a starting point. By all means, wild out!

#3. Interior decor

With interior decoration the options are endless! You can start small with yellow throw pillows and a gray couch blanket. Elevate a space with a yellow accent chair and gray throw pillows or go big by changing up your wall colors like the inspo above. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it matches most of your furniture so you don’t end up throwing things off balance or doing way too much and spending a fortune changing things up.

It’s been a crazy year no doubt and you’d deserve to have some fun with colors! Be sure to take pictures and tag us so we can see how you incorporate Pantone’s colors of the year into your life.
