NYFW: Carolina Herrera’s SS19 Collection Delivered A Remarkable Mastery
A passionate writer, self proclaimed chef and lover of music…
Carolina Herrera has always been the brand for the “Prime Ladies.” It’s never been one to follow the trend rather the luxury fashion house has always favoured dressing politely and appropriate. There has always been this type of crispy vibe about the brand and that’s what many “Prime ladies” have enjoyed so far; however, the debut collection for creative director Wes Gordon would see these women turning to select new styles because his collection was mostly geared towards a younger audience.
As the models strut down the runway in the shortest of skirts, poplin blouses, crotched two-piece, chin-high collar blouses, calf-length skirts, maxi dresses, and typical shorts, it became clear that Wes Gordon who is only 31 is trying to appeal to a much younger audience.
While his directional debut is quite strong, he also accessed the archives of Mrs Herrera as he added touches like polka dots, embroideries, florals; all of which can be identified as a part of her legacy.
As a part of maintaining the legacy with an additional selling point, there was a display of a mixture of conservative and contemporary styles. As the models walked down the carpeted runway you could see the remarkable mastery of Wes as he managed to satisfy the older generation as well as pique the interest of a much fashion-forward thinking demographic.
