Lagos Lately: See the Effervescent Looks Spotted on Nigerian Style Stars

With events bringing out the stars, Lagos barely had time to catch its breath before another wave of glamorous appearances turned the city into a celebration of fashion, culture, and personal expression. As the highly anticipated Lagos Fashion Week drew designers, stylists, celebrities, and fashion insiders from around the world, the city’s style scene came alive with fresh creative energy, both on the runways and at the gatherings surrounding them.

Adding another major occasion to the week’s festivities, Afrobeat singer Damilola Taiwo Afolabi, better known as L.A.X, began a new chapter as he exchanged marital vows with his bride, Emmanuella, at a star-studded traditional wedding themed #EDTilltheEnD over the weekend. From elaborate traditional ensembles to carefully considered accessories, guests brought their individual interpretations of celebration dressing to the festivities, giving the wedding fashion a memorable place in the week’s style story.

Away from the runways and wedding celebrations, birthdays, private gatherings, and other high-profile events provided further opportunities for Nigerian celebrities to make a sartorial statement. Designers explored unexpected proportions, rich textures, and intricate craftsmanship, while stylists translated their creative visions into outfits that reflected the personalities of those wearing them. Some appearances embraced the drama of elaborate silhouettes and statement details, while others stood out through thoughtful styling and distinctive accessories. Across these occasions, Nigerian style stars demonstrated that personal expression remains at the heart of the country’s fashion identity, with each outfit offering another interpretation of contemporary glamour.

From the international fashion crowd gathered for Lagos Fashion Week to the star-studded celebration of the #EDTilltheEnD wedding, the city delivered a memorable succession of style moments. Yet the week’s fashion story extended beyond its headline events. It belonged to the designers pushing creative boundaries, the stylists shaping distinctive fashion identities, and the celebrities bringing these visions to life with confidence.

Tiwa Savage made a striking entrance in an Alaïa ensemble that paired an asymmetric white crop top with a voluminous emerald-green skirt. The long-sleeved top featured a high mock neckline and a clean white finish, providing a dramatic contrast to the rich green taffeta balloon skirt, which gathered generously toward the floor and featured a daring thigh-high slit.

She paired the outfit with deep-green Saint Laurent mesh slingback pumps, allowing the footwear to complement the skirt’s dramatic proportions. Her asymmetrical pixie bob, styled with a deep side part and sweeping fringe, brought the ensemble together. It was a confident lesson in balancing an unconventional top with the grandeur of an evening skirt.

At the 15th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), Rita Dominic stepped out in a custom three-piece ensemble that brought artistic expression to tailored dressing. A royal-blue top covered in crisp white polka dots formed the base, with its pointed collar and extended flared cuffs adding character to the design. Over it, a black velvet-textured corset featured an embellished face motif, complete with crystal-detailed eyes across the chest and a matching mouth near the waist.

The high-waisted navy trousers balanced the intricate upper half with generous volume through the hips and thighs before tapering toward the ankles. Glossy black block heels, a compact clutch with a gold clasp, and statement gold drop earrings provided the finishing touches. Her high-top afro added another dose of personality, making the ensemble’s artistic details even more memorable.

For her birthday shoot, Toke Makinwa embraced romantic couture in a custom Weiz Dhurm Franklyn creation. The fitted dress featured long sleeves, a high neckline, and delicate buttons running down the center. Dimensional floral appliqués cascaded from the shoulder toward the waist and hip, introducing texture to the otherwise understated base. A daring thigh-high slit revealed her legs, while layers of white tulle extended from the waist into a sweeping overlay that trailed behind her.

The towering floral headpiece became the defining feature of the ensemble, with dense white petals framing her face in a dramatic, crown-like arrangement. Nude ankle-strap sandals and a vintage-inspired hairstyle provided a softer finish. The combination of delicate detailing and an extravagant headpiece gave her birthday fashion moment a distinctly romantic identity.

A matching sheer midi skirt continued the rosy palette, with a pencil silhouette and fluffy pink ostrich-feather trim at the hem. Delicate floral crystal details ran down the center, introducing a touch of sparkle to the bold design.

The matching mermaid skirt was covered in intricate lace, sequins, and swirling floral motifs accented with mint-green and gold embroidery. It extended into an immense circular train that spread across the floor, creating a dramatic finish. A mint-green satin gele echoed the embroidery, while a matching embellished pouch provided a coordinated accessory. The matching barrel pants introduced a relaxed counterpoint, with their curved silhouette tapering slightly toward the ankles and a fringed hem that celebrated the textile’s woven finish.

The deep navy fabric featured bright pinstripes arranged asymmetrically across the outfit, giving the two pieces a distinctive visual contrast. The fabric’s rich sheen complemented the gold geometric embroidery and piping across the chest panel, while batwing cape sleeves created an expansive silhouette. An ultra-high thigh slit introduced a daring contrast to the gown’s regal proportions.

She accessorized with a chocolate-brown pillbox hat, a woven gold clutch, and matching stiletto sandals. Drop gold earrings, cocktail rings, and chunky gold-and-turquoise bracelets added further detail. The combination of heritage-inspired elements and modern eveningwear gave the ensemble a distinctive character.

She introduced a delicate contrast with a mini blush-pink Christian Dior Saddle Bag, whose gold-tone hardware stood out against the all-black outfit. Minimal jewelry, a rose-gold watch, and her elegant bob provided an understated finish. The dress earned its place among the understated luxury looks at Lagos Fashion Week 2026 through its combination of sheer detailing, calligraphic texture, and thoughtful draping.

As one of the bridesmaids at the #EDTilltheEnD wedding, Hawa Magaji wore an imaginative ensemble that demonstrated how personal storytelling can become part of celebratory dressing. Her custom butter-yellow Aso-Ebi gown featured an especially personal detail: a hand-painted scene on the corset depicting a traditional African house nestled among tropical palm trees. The artwork gave the dress a playful symbolic meaning, referencing the familiar expression of sending a bride off to her “husband’s home.”

The one-shoulder neckline framed the upper body, while intricately textured lace featured floral metallic details throughout. A tiered hip drape gathered into a side bustle finished with beaded fringe before the fitted skirt flared into a mermaid hem. Her sharply pleated yellow-and-gold gele continued the warm palette, while an emerald-green woven clutch offered a striking contrast.
