Skirts Are A Hot Trend In Male Celebs’ Wardrobes: Here’s A Guide To Styling Them

These days, seeing men in skirts on a runway is almost a given, much like florals in spring collections. In fact, skirts have become a high-hitting male celebrity trend deeply ingrained in the fashion consciousness of the most fashionable stars. Now, the menswear subgenre has begun to produce its own microtrends, in mini, midi and maxi forms, and more and more celebs are trying out the daring look.

Today, the stars have skirts hanging in their closets in a plethora of styles. These bottoms, which are challenging celeb stylists to think outside the box, are opening a new wave of genderless fashion, similar to the androgynous options reverberating in womenswear. The skirt is essentially the new pearl necklace — an accessory that evolved from being on women’s dressing tables to becoming an item for the boys.

The most famous men in the world are really pushing for it. For instance, Harry Styles wore a skirt as part of his American Vogue magazine cover shoot at the tail end of 2020. Oscar Isaac wore one to the London Premiere of “Moon Knight” last year. Athlete Russell Westbrook, who has traditionally been a man of masculine tailoring, freed the legs at the Met Gala last May. And Lil Nas X wore one, not for the first time, at a Versace show in Los Angeles back in March. On TikTok, the hashtag #boysinskirts has been viewed over 280 million times.

Men’s skirts have been endorsed on the catwalk for the better part of 50 years, although typically only by the more avant-garde and experimental fashion houses. Only the most daring guys, mostly from the LGBTQ+ community, followed suit for a very long period. However, recent fashion weeks have introduced some fresh faces to the men’s skirt repertoire, solidifying its viability. Fashion labels like Thom Browne have skirts in their collection for men. Adidas now sells gender-neutral skirts. And the male celebrities? Well, they are in on all the fun with this trend. All these are a testament to the men’s skirt trend going mainstream. On that note, here are a few tips for wearing menswear skirts in a bomb way.

Here is a men’s guide to styling skirts in a bomb way…

#1. Start with a simple skirt and find the right style

If you’re new to wearing skirts, start with something simple and understated. A solid-colored A-line or pencil skirt in a neutral color like black, navy, or khaki can be a great starting point. It will be easier to incorporate into your wardrobe and won’t feel too flashy or attention-grabbing. There are many different types of skirts, so finding the right style that suits your body type and personal taste is key. Some popular styles for men include the kilt, wrap skirt, A-line skirt, and maxi skirt.

#2. Experiment with length

There are many different lengths of skirts to choose from, so experiment with what works best for you. Knee-length and midi-length skirts are great options for men who want a more conservative look, while shorter skirts can be more daring and fashion-forward.

#3. Consider the fabric

The material of your skirt can make a big difference in how it looks and feels. Cotton, denim, and wool are all good choices for a more casual, everyday look. Silk, satin, and other more luxurious materials can add a touch of elegance to your outfit.

#4. Consider the occasion

When deciding on what kind of skirt to wear, consider the occasion you’ll be wearing it to. A casual outing with friends might call for a more relaxed, comfortable skirt, while a formal event might require something more dressy.

#5. Choose the right top

When wearing a skirt, it’s important to choose the right top to balance out your outfit. For a more casual look, a simple T-shirt or button-down shirt can work well. A dress shirt or blazer can elevate your outfit for a formal occasion.

#6. Pair with the right footwear

The right footwear can make or break an outfit. For a casual look, sandals, boots, or sneakers can work well. For a more formal look, dress shoes or boots are a better choice.

#7. Accessorize appropriately

Accessories can help tie your outfit together and add some personality to your look. A belt can cinch in your waist and add some definition to your silhouette, while a scarf or hat can add some visual interest. Just be sure not to overdo it and detract from the simplicity of the skirt.

#8. Consider layering

Layering can be a great way to add interest and depth to your outfit. Consider layering your skirt with a denim or leather jacket, or wearing a turtleneck or sweater over your shirt.

#9. Own your look

Above all, it’s important to feel confident and comfortable in what you’re wearing. If you’re wearing a skirt for the first time, you might feel a bit self-conscious at first, but remember that fashion is about expressing yourself and being true to your own style. If you own your look and wear your skirt with confidence, you’re sure to turn heads for all the right reasons.
