Neem leaf is known as Dogoyaro in Nigeria which when translated means “Tall Child” or “Tall Pikin” in Pidgin English. It is a native tree to India but has spread to many parts of the world over the years due to its many uses. This tree is a perfect and imperishable plant with compounds that are medicinal and also contains many beauty enhancing properties.

The Neem tree (Dogoyaro) is used both traditionally and in pharmaceuticals. However, many are unaware of the amazing beauty benefits of Dogoyaro. The Neem leaf is antiseptic, antibacterial and antiviral.

This leaf is also helpful in clearing skin disorders that may occur due to inflammation or excess oil produced by the skin. Though Neem leaf has a bitter taste, some locals drink it for the prevention and treatment of malaria.

Among its many beneficial uses, it has been used by traditional beauty gurus for haircare as it helps kill dandruff-causing bacteria and also improves the quality, texture and shine of hair. It also promotes hair growth for those struggling with hair breakage as beauty vlogger Idee Francis shares in the video below.

COVID-19 Update: There is a claim of a healing effect from COVID-19 infection after ingestion of boiled water with neem leaves or neem leaves and turmeric mixture circulating in the social media. This claim is said to have originated from Madagascar. There’s currently no scientific evidence on the effectiveness of neem-based products (oil, extract or boiled water preparation), turmeric or their mixture in the treatment of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, so please be cautious and do your research on this.

Also note, overconsumption of neem-based tea or drinks may cause new onset of G6PD deficiency which can lead to haemolytic anaemia.
