Longer-lasting lipstick is the goal of every beauty enthusiast. Nothing is quite as disappointing as having smudged lipstick right after sipping on your favorite cocktail or taking makeup breaks in between dinner to reapply your lippie. Luckily for you, there are ways to make your lipstick stay longer to keep your makeup looking fresh all day long and we are here to keep you hooked on all the details. Can we get an amen?

That lipstick that sticks as close as a sister, and stays put after a drink, meal, and even a kiss is what we all secretly crave. It’s almost like a secret weapon that every girl should have and because it’s officially warm weather and party season, nothing should come in the way of your plans. Absolutely nothing.

So, here are a few ways to make your lipstick stay all day…

#1. Exfoliate before applying lipstick

When dead skin is layered on the lips, applying anything else only makes it appear worse. Using a sugar lip scrub to exfoliate before putting on some lipstick allows it to stay longer and look better.

#2. Moisturize your lips

Well-moisturized lips make it easy for your lipstick to glide very easily without leaving lumps. Apply a lip balm to ensure your lips are moisturized. Then, let it fully sink into the lips before applying any product on top.

#3. Use a primer

A primer creates a barrier between your skin and the makeup applied. It’s worth pointing out that this naturally holds the lipstick in place and smoothens out the skin. In the absence of a primer, some makeup experts have vouched for concealers to be able to pull off the same staying effect.

#4. Use a brush to apply lipstick

This involves meticulously coating and recoating with a brush to make lipstick stay longer, as opposed to slathering it on directly.

#5. Blot and blot again

After applying lipstick, dab a thin layer of toilet paper or blotting paper with some powder on the lips, then remove the paper and glide on some more lipstick. For maximum effect, repeat the above process a few more times. This is the ultimate layering.

#6. Try setting powder

Apply a little amount of translucent finishing powder to set the lipstick in. The trick is to apply sparingly, in order to avoid cakey lip makeup. (Note: This process is not advised for individuals with dry lips because applying powder could further dry up the lips).

#7. Use a nude lip liner

Although you’re using a liner that matches your lip color, you should also use a nude lip liner. Simply use the latter to outline your lips and then follow with your lipstick-matching liner. This is called reverse lining. The process helps you trace your lip line better, and when combined with blotting power, it will prevent smudging of the lipstick.

#7. Consider matte lipstick

Matte lipsticks boast longer staying power than soft, creamy options. They are perfect for those days when you’ll be out all day without the slightest chance of a touch-up. Long-wearing matte lipsticks may just be what you need to begin and end the day with your lipstick in place.

#9. Avoid oily foods

Do you know why experts advise opting for oil-based makeup removers? Because they do a thorough job of getting rid of makeup, thanks to their oil content. So, who’s to say oily foods wouldn’t have the same effect on your lipstick? Oil and grease break down your lipstick and make it move around.
