Prince Harry is the founder of the Invictus Games, an international sports competition that serves as a rehabilitation program for wounded, injured, and sick military personnel worldwide. The games also help raise public awareness and appreciation for soldiers’ service, supporting their recovery journey. The last Invictus Games featured around 500 competitors from 21 countries, including Nigeria, which won gold and bronze medals in its debut last year.

2. Young Jonn dominates Billboard’s Afrobeats charts

Nigerian producer and singer Young Jonn is creating big waves on the Billboard charts this week. It’s a significant achievement for Afrobeats, as Young Jonn has impressively landed seven of his songs on the Billboard US Afrobeats songs chart. Notably, five of these songs are new entries making their first appearance on the chart this week. This highlights a major milestone in Young Jonn’s career, demonstrating his skills both as a producer and a hit-making singer.

The other two songs include one that has re-entered the chart after being away for a while and another that maintained its position from the previous week. As Afrobeats continues to captivate global audiences, Young Jonn is clearly at the forefront of this musical movement.

3. South Africa: Dineo Ranaka opens up about how radio makes her sick

Media personality Dineo Ranaka has spoken candidly about the negative impact that working in radio has had on her health. During an interview with Nomalanga Shozi on BET’s “Behind The Story,” Ranaka, who is both a TV and radio presenter, shared that her mental health issues have often been triggered by her experiences at various radio stations. “At 5FM and YFM, I fell sick. At Metro FM, I went to initiation school, and at Kaya FM, I ended up with depression,” Ranaka disclosed.

She also expressed that although she is a strong woman, there are limits to the stress she can handle, and radio has proven to be particularly harsh. Ranaka described the radio industry as being inherently abusive towards its presenters. “It’s a very abusive industry on the back end.” She pointed out that her dismissal from Kaya FM came at a time when she was already struggling with depression, highlighting the personal challenges she faced in the industry.

4. Don Jazzy responds to Wizkid’s remarks and unfollows him on Instagram

Yesterday, on Monday, April 29, 2024, Afrobeats superstar Wizkid caused a stir with critical comments directed at the head of Mavin Records, Michael Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy. The Star Boy executive verbally attacked not only Don Jazzy but also his artist Ladipoe and another Afrobeats superstar, Davido. This started when a fan asked Wizkid for his thoughts on recent statements Ladipoe made about the Afrobeats genre. Wizkid responded dismissively, calling Ladipoe irrelevant and labeling Don Jazzy merely an “influencer.”

The fallout from this exchange was evident online, as a quick look at their Instagram accounts showed that Don Jazzy had unfollowed Wizkid. This action highlights a growing tension between these two influential figures in the Nigerian music industry, suggesting a potential split in their professional relationship.

5. Thiago Silva to leave Chelsea at the end of the season

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is set to leave the club at the end of this season. The Brazilian, who moved to Chelsea on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, has played 151 games for the club. During his time with the Blues, he has won three major trophies, including the Champions League in the 2020–21 season. Silva, 39, expressed his deep affection for the club, saying his love for Chelsea is “indescribable.”

“Chelsea means a lot to me. I originally planned to stay just one year, but it turned into four,” he shared. “It’s always difficult to say goodbye, but it’s even tougher when the feeling is mutual. However, once a Blue, always a Blue.” The former AC Milan center-back, who has earned 113 caps for Brazil, also mentioned his hope to return to Stamford Bridge in a new role in the future.
