When Last Did You Clean Your Makeup Brushes? | SR Beauty

Have you cleaned your makeup brush in the last 3 months? 6 months? Last year? OK, I’ll rephrase that…when was the last time you cleaned them? Have they ever been cleaned at all? If you are contemplating the answers to these questions, stop what you’re doing right now – it’s an order! -, and follow these steps right away.

  1. Find a brush cleaner / mild shampoo / dish soap. If you’re unsure how that will interact with your skin, stick to a product made specifically to sanitize brushes.
  2. Pour in a bowl filled with warm water
  3. Immerse your makeup brushes into the bowl and let it soak for about 5 – 10 mins (Judging by the fact that they may have never been washed, you might want to let it soak for another extra 5 mins)

While you’re letting it soak, here are some facts you should know about dirty makeup brushes: Firstly, besides being the potential cause of breakouts, zits and other skin irritations, professional makeup artists claim that dirty makeup brushes affects the way your makeup applies to your face, interrupting the very purpose for the tools’ existence! This is a no-brainer as the bristles of the brushes are clogged with debris of residue makeup.

  4. After allowing to soak, use your fingertips to massage the bristles in order to get the dirt out or whirl the bristles against a brush cleaning mat or a clean piece cloth or     hand towel.
  5. Gently squeeze out the bristles in order to keep your brushes in the best shape           possible, and to prevent the bristle from loosening.
  6. Hang them upside-down on a brush tree or lay them down on a flat clean surface to air dry.
  7. If you’re looking for a quick fix on the go, try using a makeup wipe to clean residue off your brushes. However, you don’t want that to be your only cleaning method.

Now that that’s out of the way, you can go on with your makeup regimen per usual.
