10 Of The Best Looks From Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week

The always breathtaking Haute Couture Fashion Week returned in grand style to Paris from July 4 through July 7. This year’s IRL shows appeared to be bigger and better than ever, with international celebrities decamping to the French capital to witness it all firsthand. The schedule included shows by major fashion houses like Dior, Chanel, Valentino, and Balenciaga with Giambattista Valli making his long-awaited Couture Week return.

What could be better than seeing iconic brands show off their latest designs during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week? Seeing your favorite celebrities in the crowd, too. But celebrities did not only infiltrate the streets and front row seats, the models also had celebrity company backstage.

“I always talk about trying to achieve that state of creative innocence — of fighting to stay close to that person who fell in love with fashion and its possibilities, of not succumbing to cynicism or world-weariness,”

~ Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli

Most notably, Balenciaga’s second couture collection by Demna had celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, and Dua Lipa, walk his designs down the runway.

Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior hired Ukrainian artist Olesia Trofymenko to create the background for a haute couture showing that drew primarily from a balanced earthy color palette while emphasizing workmanship, and drawing inspiration from the tree of life–– complete with a statement that “renders our gratitude for nature’s wisdom.”

According to fashionista.com, at Schiaparelli, “Daniel Roseberry presented a referential but imaginative and fantastical collection, intended to serve as an antidote to the industry’s proclivity for self-seriousness.” The looks from Schiaparelli’s haute couture FW22 collection defined an edgy glamour that was classy, contemporary, and avant-garde in its details and presentation.

“I always talk about trying to achieve that state of creative innocence — of fighting to stay close to that person who fell in love with fashion and its possibilities, of not succumbing to cynicism or world-weariness,” Daniel Roseberry wrote in the show notes. “I hope that spirit comes through in this collection… I think we sometimes get defensive when our critics accuse us of just wanting to make beautiful things. But what’s wrong with wanting to make beautiful things? It’s not the only important part of life, of course, but it is a part of life. And to make truly beautiful things isn’t actually that easy. But it is a privilege — and I’m grateful for it every day.”

Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection by Olivier Rousteing was simply creativity on steroids. From heavy metallic pieces to geometric prints, deconstructed wardrobe staples to eclectic structural ensembles, the collection came packed with a little bit of everything from every era.

From Chanel and Schiaparelli’s dramatic hats to the bold jackets at Christian Dior and Alexandre Vauthier, there’s no shortage of lavish looks but when it comes to haute couture, lavish alone doesn’t cut it. The most memorable looks of the season came packed with details, art, drama, and that oomph factor that give a true haute couture piece that je ne sais quoi factor.
