Nigerian megastar, Davido has just signed a multi-million naira deal with sports betting company, 1XBET. The singer who once talked down the idea of signing ambassadorial deals with brands rather than partnerships seems to be chasing the dream as he signs his second partnership deal within a month’s space after partnering with Viva detergent.

At around 2 pm (WAT), Davido took to his Instagram account to upload clips of proceedings at the event center, where he was officially unveiled as an brand ambassador for 1XBET. After the unveiling, he tweeted: “#Davido1xBET Party popper God is good! Looking forward to this partnership.”

2. J. Cole announces new album

Dreamville Records founder J. Cole has just announced the coming of his next album, “The Off-Season,” with a release date set for May 14. The Fayetteville, N.C. lyricist announced the project on his social media channels, sharing the cover art. “Just know this was years in the making,” he noted in the caption.

The announcement attracted an avalanche of comments, retweets, and likes from fans and industry names alike. The highly anticipated album comes three years after J. Cole’s last album, “KOD” — an acronym for Kids on Drugs, King Overdosed, and Kill Our Demons.

3. South African musicians to get royalties via TikTok, Facebook, and Netflix

The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) says it has started collecting royalties on behalf of its members from TikTok, Facebook, and Netflix after concluding licensing agreements with the popular digital platforms. This is a major step towards adapting its licensing and royalty payments to the ever-changing technological landscape, the organization said.

SAMRO chairperson Nicholas Maweni said: “Thanks to the conclusion of these binding agreements, Samro will be able to collect royalties on behalf of members for all copyright-protected content that features on these platforms with immediate effect.”

4. Oman places COVID-19 travel ban on Ghana

Oman has added Ghana to a list of 14 countries whose residents are barred from applying to enter the country till further notice. The ban, which takes effect from 9 am on Friday (May 7, 2021), affects countries including; South Africa, Brazil, Nigeria, India, and the United Kingdom, and it is meant to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Other countries affected by the ban are; Sudan, Lebanon, Tanzania, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It also restricts incoming travelers from visiting the countries on the list within 14 days from applying to enter the Sultanate until further notice.

5. Manchester City set Champions League records with semi-final triumph against PSG

Manchester City became the English team with the highest number of wins in a single Champions League season with Tuesday’s semi-final second leg victory over Paris Saint-Germain. The 2-0 (4-1 on aggregate) result gave them a record 11 wins in the competition this campaign, and their current run of seven consecutive victories has also bested any other English side.

Manager Pep Guardiola broke his semi-final hoodoo in the process, advancing past the last four for the first time since 2010-2011. His men are now in a position to claim a treble, having already lifted the Carabao Cup and sitting one win away from the Premier League title.
