ast week was no ordinary week in fashion’s calendar. With Valentine’s Day and New York Fashion Week, there were valid reasons to get stylishly clad and hit the streets. Whether it was in a sassy ensemble worn to spark up the ember of a treasured relationship, or designer-themed street style outfits while attending fashion shows, the social media streets were buzzing with beautiful Black ladies. All were in tune with their elements and equally pleased to showcase facets of this awareness with bourgeois mannerisms, symbiotic collaborations, and overall picture-perfect moments.
The highlight of Fashion Week, asides from the eclectic designs on professional models, were beautiful Black ladies linking up in colorful and tres chic clothing. The joy exuding from the link-ups was a reminder that winning together is a distinct kind of success. Simultaneously, our TLs witnessed a heavy dose of PDA, with lovers putting their best couples slay feet forward as they exchanged heartfelt gifts and words. These moments caught on camera were to the delight of all, and our style pinboards might finally be in overload mode.
Star girl Ciara Wilson hit up the Bart Starr award breakfast event looking like a delicious but healthy three-course meal in a 16Arlington off-white number and nude Christian Louboutin pumps alongside husband Russell Wilson. The almost-minimal frock revolted a bit with statement collars and frills around the wrist. Ciara’s unpredictable style brings the enthusiasm that fashion needs to stay alive.
Rapper Cardi B, who’s gradually becoming a fashion pundit with statement-making red carpet and event-ready moments, walked into a rose sanctuary put together by her husband Offset for Valentine’s Day. There were lots of “drool-able” moments, from the entire ambiance full of red roses and candles to flaunting a crisp Chanel bag. Her Syndical Chamber denim midi dress still managed to remain distinct in a room full of worthy distractions. The star bodied the distressed denim dress, which featured conspicuous cutouts from the chest to the waist region, and a naked illusion, which she paired with an asymmetric denim jacket and denim red-soled Louboutin pumps.
As we already know, Paris has a reputation as the city of love. Perhaps it’s the ever ready croissants, exotic meals, and impeccable style that makes everyone feel at home—relaxed enough to express one’s feelings better. Nigerian actress Stephanie Coker took Valentine’s season to Paris, and from the look of things had a swell time with her husband. From gifting her pleasantly surprised bae a luxury Audemars Piguet wristwatch to releasing shots of herself walking the streets of love looking like a million bucks. The star undoubtedly caught the right attention in a statement Tolu Bally two-piece. The bejeweled mesh top was decorated with a huge bow-like detail on the chest, and matching high-waisted pants with a mini silver Chanel bag speaking fluently in class.
The styles shared by Black celebrities and top fashion influencers last week were nothing short of chic, edgy, and glamorous, and it’s safe to say that we are, as usual, living vicariously through them. Black style queens.
