NikeSKIMS Takes Its Biggest Global Bet Yet With a China Launch

NikeSKIMS launched in the United States in autumn 2025 and earned its shot at a second season faster than most new brands manage. The initial consumer response was strong enough that the joint venture between Nike and SKIMS moved quickly, expanding into Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and Korea through the Spring 2026 collection fronted by LISA of BLACKPINK.
Less than a year after its first drop, NikeSKIMS is now opening in Greater China, the world’s most competitive and most scrutinized consumer market. The Shanghai pop-up at HKRI Taikoo Hui, situated next to Louis Vuitton’s landmark concept space on West Nanjing Road, opens September 29, 2026, and runs through February 2027. This is not a soft test. For a brand that has moved this fast, China is a statement of intent.
NikeSKIMS Brings Its Global Momentum To China
The timing is important to this story. NikeSKIMS is entering a market where international activewear brands are staging a more considered, premium-led return after years of caution. Alo has launched its Tmall flagship. Sweaty Betty is returning to Shanghai with a store. Nike ACG opened its first standalone global store in Beijing earlier this year. The playbook across the category is the same: community first, digital validation, then carefully chosen physical retail. NikeSKIMS is following that sequence, but with considerably more built-in name recognition than most brands arriving at this stage.
The China Collection Goes Beyond Performance Basics

The inaugural China collection arrives as a complete head-to-toe system spanning apparel, footwear, and accessories across nine specialized material fabrications. The range covers Performance Cotton Blend tops, semi-sheer Weightless layering pieces, Studio Stretch constructions, and mid-level compression Matte designs alongside relaxed Stretch Nylon, vintage-washed Ribbed Seamless pieces, Satin Shine options, double-layered Stretch Knit garments, and breathable Airy basic layers. Each fabrication features Nike’s Dri-FIT technology integrated with SKIMS’s sculpting-fit expertise, the same combination that drove the Spring 2026 collection’s rapid sell-through across its initial markets.
The campaign imagery for the China launch features Hong Kong swimmer Stephanie Au, speed skater Jutta Leerdam, snowboarder Chloe Kim, and hurdler Anna Cockrell. The casting is deliberate. While Spring 2026 focused on the world of ballet and contemporary dance through LISA’s campaign, the China collection anchors itself in sport, specifically, the kind of elite female athletic performance the brand was built to serve. Au’s inclusion as a Hong Kong athlete adds regional resonance to a launch that needs to feel local rather than imported.
A Shanghai Pop-Up Built Around Community

The physical retail activation at HKRI Taikoo Hui is designed to operate more like a permanent presence than a traditional pop-up. Local media reports indicate the format will run slowly and deliberately, prioritizing community experience over transactional volume. The space will offer localized community programming, first-access try-ons, and brand-exclusive custom hemming services. This detail speaks to the level of finish NikeSKIMS seeks to associate with its market presence.
The location is significant. HKRI Taikoo Hui has recorded its strongest footfall periods around major brand activations, and NikeSKIMS will sit among some of the most commercially active luxury and premium retail names in the city. A parallel partnership with Lane Crawford will place the collection in Hong Kong’s Times Square simultaneously, giving the brand a dual-market entry across Greater China from day one.
Why NikeSKIMS Is Testing Its Formula In China
The Chinese activewear consumer is, as one retail analyst recently noted, extremely discerning and increasingly difficult to impress. Brands that have succeeded in the market in recent years have done so by offering something genuinely differentiated rather than simply extending a Western proposition into a new geography.
Nike and SKIMS have a plausible case for differentiation. The sculpting fit technology that SKIMS brings to the partnership sits in a different register from what domestic Chinese activewear brands have prioritized, and Nike’s performance credibility gives the collaboration an athletic foundation that pure fashion brands entering the space cannot match.
The collection launches on September 17 in the US, and September 29 in China at the NikeSKIMS Shanghai HKRI Taikoo Hui pop-up and online via the Nike App and NikeSKIMS.com. The pop-up runs through February 2027.
