After what seemed like ages, designers are glad to be back following a season of digital offerings. The New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022 started on September 7th, and kept us glued to the screens until September 12th.
Studio 189 featured a collection called “Inheritance” because of the way it braids together the Spring 2021 and Fall 2021 collections with this season’s designs. Founded by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah, the collection featured madras, indigo, and other hand-dyed textiles that created an optimistic, hand-hewn backdrop for easy summer shapes. This is one collection from NYFW SS21 that we can’t wait to get our hands on.
Christian Siriano pays homage to Italy and its splendor, drawing inspiration from the old photographs of his grandmother in the sixties and seventies on vacation in Positano. Vintage lace appliqués and dramatic silhouette features are applied throughout and also accompany elegant evening gowns. Opulence, wealth, and exaggeration. The result? A map of emotions expressed in an experience of luxury that goes beyond all limits.
Proenza Schouler presented a utilitarian wardrobe for an intelligent, adult woman. Urban but filtered through the romantic lens of expedition and travel, rendered in a collection decidedly made for the city’s streets. The tailoring continues to be the basis of the collection but is renewed thanks to bright and plush jacquard variations. The technical garments are made luxurious by the cut and proportions, but they maintain their function, counterbalancing the more decorative notes. Finally, bright colors revisited preppy shapes, embroidery, and character applications that punctuated the Oscar De La Renta spring 2022 fashion show.
