How To Manage Long Distance Relationships And Be Happy

Long-distance relationships are not always bubbles and sparkles. Sometimes, they require more effort trying to make them work. This doesn’t mean that keeping a long-distance relationship is an uphill task, it mostly depends on proper communication among other factors. So, if you’re wondering how to deal with a long-distance relationship, you’ve come to the right place as we’ll be sharing some helpful tips to ensure your relationship doesn’t lose its fire.

There are several reasons why you and your partner may reside in different parts of the globe. For instance, it may be that work or business called for a relocation. On the other hand, it could also be that you met while the other came visiting in town. Regardless of the case, knowing how best to deal with your partner and being happy in your long-distance relationship is essential to having a healthy relationship. As a result, we’ve curated some practical tips to help you deal with the distance, be happy, and have a beautiful relationship.

Maintain your long-distance relationship with these tips…

#1. See it as an opportunity

It’s easy to see this period as a downside to your relationship, but that doesn’t have to be the case. As a matter of fact, living in different cities can turn out to be a good thing for you both, depending on how you see it. For instance, being apart can offer you the opportunity to delve deeper into your partner’s “person” devoid of the distraction of being in the same space. See this as an opportunity and it’ll turn out as one.

#2. Define the goal

You can’t be in a long-distance relationship forever. Eventually, you will need to settle down. Therefore, very early on, define the goals of this relationship so both parties are aware. For instance, are you going to move to his city, or will he be coming to you? How long can you reasonably spend apart? How many times will you meet in person? These questions and more can help you both map out a plan and ensure that you’re working towards the same goal.

#3. Video call each other daily

Thanks to technology, you can see each other frequently. Imagine the era of long-distance relationships without video calls. How would you communicate? Letters? Dear Lord! Although this doesn’t take the place of physical and direct contact, it comes close. Spending time daily on a video call deepens your bond and helps you familiarize yourself. After all, they say out-of-sight is out-of-mind.

#4. Be secure

A partner who calls every minute to check in can begin to look desperate and clingy. Insecurity is a big relationship killer that should be avoided. The very essence of communicating is to build confidence, so there has to be trust between the couple or it simply won’t work. Remember, you also need to be busy chasing your goals.

#5. Plan a date

Distance shouldn’t be a barrier when it comes to planning dates in long-distance relationships. Thanks to technology, you can have special date nights as close to what you would have in person. It could be a movie night or playing a multiplayer online game. Whatever it is, spend quality time together. It builds a strong relationship.

#6. Text romantically

Pick up the phone and text them what you’d really love to do with them (like a boat cruise). Basically, say something nice and romantic to have your partner grinning from ear to ear. This could be inspired by that RomCom movie you drool over, a novel, irresistible poetry, or a reverie of past experiences you both have had.

#7. Make plans for a reunion

Going somewhere new together and making beautiful memories could strengthen your relationship, so why not plan to make this happen? Good thing the lockdowns are gone. It could be as simple as a visit, or a more elaborate reunion like a planned vacation. This move could breathe a new type of excitement into your relationship because there’ll be something you’re both desperately looking forward to.

#8. Know your limits

In as much as a high level of transparency is advised in long-distance relationships, you should know your boundaries. Not every “gist” has to be told. In addition, let your partner in on your deal breakers and what you can or cannot accept. This prevents future problems as one cannot feign ignorance of your limits.

Hey, look on the bright side: they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. So time away from each other makes you value your partner even more and vice versa. Always remember love is worth the wait.
