In our very busy adult lives, we very often don’t have the time to whip up a great meal before dashing out of the house. Let’s face it, a great meal takes time but time is a luxury that doesn’t come with the thing called adulting. Consequently, many of us retreat to the tried and trusted food delivery service, and others wait for the weekend to put together meals for the whole week.

Now, considering that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it’s not something you should skip or delay until you get to the office. But how do you get your day started quickly and still have time for breakfast? The answer is quick and easy breakfast ideas. In this article, you’ll discover eight very easy and quick breakfasts you can put together in no time. And this is not to say that you’ll have to compromise taste for time. Not at all. For each one of these is super delicious even the kids would love it.

#1. Instant oatmeal

Easy breakfast ideas don’t get easier than instant oatmeal. Up the taste with spices like cinnamon and with the crunchiness of pecans. Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup quick oats
  • 1 tbsp. dried cranberries
  • 1 tbsp. chopped toasted pecans
  • 1/2 tsp. brown sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Grated orange zest
  • Kosher salt

Procedure

  • In a bowl, place quick oats, dried cranberries and chopped toasted pecans, brown sugar, and a pinch each of ground cinnamon, grated orange zest, and salt.
  • Next, add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of just-boiling water. Let this sit for 1 min. Stir and eat.

#2. A very merry smoothie

Okay, perhaps a smoothie is a quicker and easier breakfast than oatmeal. Other than its fruitiness and nutrients, a glass of smoothie is super filling and can provide you with the burst of energy you need to get your day started. This recipe is a banana smoothie, but the process is generally the same for most types. 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 2 tbsp. almond butter
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt

Procedure

In a blender, add ingredients in the order they are listed. Purée ingredients until smooth. Serve in a glass with slices of banana and blueberries, if you please.

#3. Omelet and greens

We know that you like to remind the kids how much good greens do their bodies, but do you remember to eat greens yourself? With this easy breakfast, you get to incorporate much-needed veggies into your meal plan. You’re welcome.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp. olive oil, divided
  • 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 8 large eggs
  • Kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 oz. Parmesan, finely grated
  • 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 3 oz. baby spinach

Procedure

  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large nonstick skillet on medium. Next, add the onion and sauté until tender, about 6 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, 1 tablespoon of water, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  • Return skillet to medium and add butter. Follow with eggs and cook, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula until eggs are partially set.
  • Turn heat to low and cover pan tightly, cooking until eggs are just set, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Top with Parmesan and cooked onion; fold in half.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together lemon juice and the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Toss spinach with vinaigrette and serve with the omelet.

#4. Strawberry pancakes with syrup

Ingredients

  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Milk
  • Melted butter
  • One egg 
  • Vanilla extract

Procedure

  • Whisk dry ingredients together
  • Melt butter (you can use the microwave) and add warm milk 
  • Combine the dry and wet ingredients
  • Cook in batches on a hot buttered skillet
  • After which, proceed to drop slices of strawberry. Yummy.

#5. French toast

When it comes to French toast, sometimes less is more. If you’ve run out of berries, you can just dip them in a mixture of milk and egg and proceed to fry. Eat this alongside tea or coffee and you’re good.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 slices bread

Procedure

  • Beat egg, vanilla, and cinnamon in a shallow dish with a wire whisk. Stir in milk
  • Dip bread in egg mixture, turning to coat both sides evenly
  • Cook bread slices on a lightly greased nonstick griddle or skillet on medium heat until browned on both sides.
  • Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon to 1 cup pancake syrup; stir well to mix. Serve warm, if desired. Breakfast idea.

#6.. Fried plantain and egg sauce

I once read that “to fry plantain without eating a single slice requires a very high level of discipline.” Yes, they’re that tempting. This is true because this finger food is tasty and lightweight, making it great for breakfast. If it makes it to the dining table, bon appetit!

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 4 ripe plantains
  • Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry
  • Handful green peas
  • 1/4 kg vegetable oil
  • 1 onion
  • Habanero pepper
  • 3 fresh tomatoes

Procedure

  • Peel and slice the plantain
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan, gradually put the plantain, and fry on medium heat
  • Fry until golden brown. Then flip to the other side and fry
  • Afterwards, remove fried plantains and put them in a sieve to drain out the oil
  • Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk properly. Add salt to taste
  • Wash and slice the onion, habanero pepper, and fresh tomatoes
  • Heat up vegetable oil, add the onion, and fry for a few seconds. Afterwards, add the fresh pepper and fresh tomatoes.
  • Add salt and curry then pour in the green peas.
  • Fry for 1 minute and the yummy egg sauce is ready.

#7. Garnished noodles and boiled eggs

Vegetables like carrots and green beans up the noodles game. It goes from regular to pump status. Try out this breakfast idea with either boiled or fried eggs and if you want to be extra, add shrimp. Breakfast is served.

Ingredients

  • Instant noodles
  • 2 fresh tomatoes
  • sliced onions
  • Fresh pepper
  • 1 egg
  • Vegetable oil

Procedure

  • Cook instant noodles per usual until ready. Drain water and add the accompanying spices
  • Set your frying pan on the heat and add sliced tomatoes, onions, fresh pepper
  • Fry for about five minutes
  • After frying, break the two eggs into the same bowl and whisk together before transferring to the frying pan.
  • Finally, add the noodles while stirring for about three minutes. Your garnished noodles is ready!

#8. Good ol’ bread and tea

We all love bread and tea (or chocolate drink, if you please). Asides from the fact that it’s super easy and yummy, it could be filling too depending on the quantity you consume. Scrambled eggs or sardines are a good partner to complete this meal. Super easy!
