Common can check Broadway star off his bucket list as he is set to star in Stephen Adly Guirgis’ play “Between Riverside and Crazy,” according to reports. He will play the role of Junior and shares in an Instagram post how he is “supremely grateful” and “overwhemingly inspired” to be a part of this production. This has been a dream of mine for a very long time to act in a play, to do theater, and to be a part of a theater company,” he shared on social media. “I am supremely grateful and overwhelmingly inspired to be a part of Between Riverside and Crazy. I can’t wait to begin this process and to live this journey. You never could have told me that little south side boy that he would be on Broadway. When I got this role, I called my mother like I had gotten my first record contract. Haha! It was that much joy. I have been told how hard the work is and that there’s nothing like it. This is what I want as an artist and as a being that believes art can heal and inspire. I want to be a part of the theater community to express that light and love. I thank GOD for this opening of doors and this blessing.”

The rapper is already an “EGO” holder. If he’s nominated for a Tony Award and can manage to walk away victorious, he will join the class of EGOT winners alongside recent recipient Jennifer Hudson. The play includes Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colón, Liza Colón-Zayas, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Michael Rispoli. It debuts on November 30th.

Celebrated Nigerian singer and songwriter Wande Coal has teased a new single on his social media. While going live on Monday, September 19, Wande Coal teased a new single which had fans buzzing. The single has a punchy Amapiano beat that combines with his catchy vocals to suggest a hit song in the making. The single has been excitedly received by fans who are eager to get new music from the veteran who, in recent times, has reduced the frequency of his release.

The single, when it’s released, will be Wande Coal’s first release of 2022 after dropping “Come My Way” in 2021.

3. South Africa: Mihlali Ndamase’s IG Live gives fans a glimpse into her relationship

Influencer and YouTuber Mihlali Ndamase is still a hot topic across social after she gave fans a glimpse into how she spends her days with her beau, Leeroy. Mihlali and her man spent the day together in Cape Town. The influencer made sure her social media platforms were the place to be as she filled her fans in, reality TV-style, on what the couple got up to.

While chilling on a yacht and sipping some bubbles, Mihlali interacted with her fans on her Instagram Live as she and her bae shared occasional cute moments like when Mihlali lovingly rubbed Leeroy’s foot or when Leeroy — seemingly enjoying the sights — suddenly walked into Mihlali’s frame. The couple also went live during their lunch date where the influencer was being served more champagne by Leeroy.

4. Equatorial Guinea abolishes death penalty

The death penalty has been abolished in Equatorial Guinea, according to a new criminal code signed by President Teodoro Obiang, state media has reported. The last execution in the country took place eight years ago. Obiang’s son, Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, described the decision as “historical and memorable,” reports say. The new penal code will be implemented after 90 days. The move comes three years after President Obiang promised to abolish the death penalty.

The acting UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Nada Al-Nashif praised the new law. “I welcome the adoption of a new penal code in Equatorial Guinea abolishing the death penalty. The death penalty is incompatible with fundamental tenets of human rights and dignity,” she said in a statement. Capital punishment remains legal in just over 30 African countries, but more than 20 of those have not carried out executions for at least 10 years.

5. Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus speaks out on Brazil squad snub

In-form Arsenal frontman Gabriel Jesus has broken his silence over his omission from Tite’s latest Brazil national team squad. Jesus has started the season strongly, registering four goals and three assists in his first seven games as a Gunner. However, despite his form, he was not included in Brazil’s squad for upcoming friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia. Jesus has now insisted that he has no hard feelings towards Tite while vowing to keep trying to force his way into his plans.

“I respect the coach’s decision a lot, I respect Tite, the entire staff, the entire commission. As I said, I’m Brazilian, I’ll always root for the team. And I also respect the other players, who have a lot of quality. I’ll keep doing my best to have the opportunity again,” he told the media. With no international football to distract him, the 25-year-old should be firing on all cylinders when Arsenal returns to action in the North London derby on Saturday, October 1. Common Broadway
