1. Chioma Nnadi makes history as first Black woman to lead British Vogue

When British Vogue’s current editor, Edward Enninful, departs, Chioma Nnadi will succeed him, making her the first Black woman to assume the highly recognized position. Chioma, who is currently the editor of Vogue America Online, will serve as head of editorial content, not editor-in-chief. Her new role will begin on October 9, and she will presumably work alongside Anna Wintour. The incoming editor opened up about her new role and the impact Enninful will leave behind. “Is there pressure? Yeah, there’s definitely pressure—it’s Vogue,” she said. “It still means something to be in Vogue, it still has authority. [And there’s pressure] because of Edward. He broke new ground. It’s more than being part of a magazine; it’s part of the cultural conversation.”

Nnadi, who also co-hosts the US-based podcast for the site, said she will strive for more “digital storytelling” and “interactive” content with subscribers. Ahead of this new shift, Wintour said Nnadi is a “beloved colleague” who will not only work on fashion but “music and culture.” Although Enninful is leaving the magazine after six groundbreaking years, he will remain at Condé Nast as an advisor.

2. American rappers Lil Durk & Kodak Black pay tribute to Mohbad

American hip-hop star Kodak Black has joined the long list of celebrities who have sent their condolences over the passing of street-hop star Mohbad whose music distinguished him in Afrobeats. During Kodak Black’s live Instagram session, a fan commented that he was Mohbad’s neighborhood hero until he passed. While expressing his condolences, Kodak shared that he only stumbled on Mohbad’s page a few days ago.

Similarly, Chicago rapper Lil Durk also paid respect to the late Mohbad. In a tweet on September 19, he said “RIP Mohbad AKA Imole.” The rapper also posted the tribute on his Instagram story. While Lil Durk’s tribute might come as a surprise to some Nigerians, the rapper has a big following in Nigeria, with his single “All My Life” featuring J Cole reaching No. 1 on Apple Music and Spotify Nigeria charts. Mohbad’s death has led to calls from the general public for the police to investigate any possibilities of foul play after videos of him being harassed by some figures appeared online.

3. South Africa: Cassper Nyovest grateful after ‘Solomon’ hits top spot on iTunes

Cassper Nyovest is never one to shy away from celebrating his wins, even when it’s confused with tooting his own horn. The rapper, who released his album recently, announced on his X timeline that the album is number one on streaming platform iTunes. “Solomon debuted at number 1 on iTunes, across all genres. Thank you for buying the album. I am told it’s the first hip-hop album to debut number at 1 on iTunes this year. Either way, I’m just happy to see people appreciating this body of work. It means a lot to me, keep buying and keep listening. Thank you,” he wrote.

Nyovest also recently appeared on Apple Music’s Rap Life Radio cover. He shared the snap on X and reflected on his 10 years in the game and seven albums. Among the works in the pipeline for Cassper is his joint tour with Nasty C, African Throne. The tour will see them perform their collaborations and new music from their fresh projects.

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and his fiancé Mariah Riddlesprigger have welcomed their third child—a daughter. The couple has named the baby Eva Brooke. She joins big brothers Liam, 3, and Maverick, 2. Antetokounmpo and Riddlesprigger shared the joyous news in an Instagram post, placing a heart emoji over the newborn’s face. The couple, who have been together since 2014, recently revealed their engagement during a news conference that they both participated in for National Diaper Need Awareness Week. “Soon [I’m going] to be married to this beautiful woman next to me,” he said.

The basketball player also couldn’t contain his joy about welcoming a daughter, saying: “This is exciting … We want to have a big family. I know my two boys are going to be extremely excited to meet their little sister and protect her and spend time with her and play with her and grow up with her.”

Congratulations to the couple!

5. Arsenal get Jurrien Timber injury boost following knee surgery

Arsenal have been boosted by the sight of Jurrien Timber already walking freely without crutches following his recent knee operation. The Netherlands international full-back was snapped up from Ajax during the summer transfer window for £34 million ($42m). He picked up an unfortunate injury when making his Premier League debut on the opening weekend against Nottingham Forest.

Timber suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage, forcing him to undergo surgery. He is set to be sidelined for several months, with Arsenal prepared to ease him back into their plans when the time is right, but he has already been spotted at the Gunners’ official team photo shoot sporting a smile and no obvious issues with his knee. Arsenal were disappointed to lose Timber so early in the 2023-24 campaign, but Mikel Arteta believes long-term value will be found in a big-money deal.
