1. Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’ sets new African record on Spotify

Burna Boy’s “Last Last” has become the first solo African song to cross the 100 million streams mark on Spotify. “Last Last” has enjoyed impressive success since it was released in May 2022. The single has achieved cross-continental success, which has helped it to reach a peak of number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100. The huge popularity of “Last Last” across multiple countries has even made some people regard it as the 2022 song of the summer.

It also recently sold more than 500,000 copies in the United States, which made it eligible for gold certification. This sees Burna Boy surpass Davido as the Afrobeats artist with the most singles certifications in the United States, with “Last Last” becoming his third singles certification after “YE” and “On the Low.”

Remy Ma, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, can add modeling to her long list of talents. The rapper recently flexed her modeling skills during New York Fashion Week. During the show, Smith took the runway for streetwear mogul David Ben David’s Sprayground show. For the memorable moment, the Bronx-born rapper slayed in a mesh green leotard. The outfit was completed with thigh-high black boots, a designer utility belt, and an adorable plush commando bear backpack.

“It was too fun! #NYFW,” Remy captioned the fabulous runway video on Instagram. She playfully added, “It’s Reminisce ? don’t confuse her with #RemyMa.” The runway ensemble was part of the brand’s latest launch, the “Time Travel Collection.” According to 360 Magazine, the collection was designed to journey attendees through the “past, present, and future.”

Grammy award-winner DJ Black Coffee and Ami Faku have collaborated with Gallo Remixed to create an Afropop remix of “There’s Music In The Air.” The song was originally recorded, written, produced, and performed in 1976 by Letta Mbulu and Caiphus Semenya. Both musicians said they were excited to work together. “I’m super excited for the release of this song. I have always wanted to work with Black Coffee and we finally found the perfect song and I hope people receive it well,” said Ami.

“This remix is one that I hold close to my heart as it represents so much of the struggle, perseverance and courage that my country has always put forth. We’ve taken our roots and splashed a modern spin. I’m excited for this to be released for the world’s ears,” shared producer Black Coffee. At the beginning of the month, Ami teased her followers about releasing a song with DJ Black Coffee.

4. Kenya president congratulates successor for the first time

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has publicly congratulated President-elect William Ruto for the first time since his win in the August 6 election. In a speech outlining his administration’s key successes, the outgoing president, who had backed veteran politician Raila Odinga to succeed him, said he would attend Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony.

Last week, the Supreme Court dismissed several petitions that had challenged Mr. Ruto’s win. Mr. Kenyatta urged his successor to serve all Kenyans irrespective of their political persuasions, saying that the country had undergone a consequential transformation during his tenure.

5. Arda Turan retires

Former Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Turkey midfielder Arda Turan has announced his retirement from football aged 35. Turan has been without a club since his Galatasaray contract expired at the end of last season, and he has now confirmed that he is hanging up his boots.

“It has been an amazing journey for me, for my mother, for my father, for my brother, my wife and my children. I hope it has been for you as well,” Turan said. “It was difficult, but it was beautiful. I give my dues to everyone who loves me, values ​​me while playing, values ​​me and hates me.” The Turkish legend has indicated that he is keen to continue to work in football as a coach.
