For the brand’s SS19 showing at London Fashion Week, Roksanda Ilinčić mirrored the textures on a series of tapestries work by Le Corbusier, a famed architect as it continues to focus on fluid silhouettes. The fashion house knows all about clothes that aren’t just elegant but are friendly to women’s bodies and for yet another collection she continues to tell the story as the lineup was filled with pieces that expressed fluidity at its core.
Flowing satin midi dresses, billowy blouses, roomy culottes were updated with textures like crinkled cotton fabrics and lightweight linens as they made their way back on the runway.
“Beautiful, round female bodies” according to Serbian-born Roksanda Ilinčić, is what she translated into her collection. Already known to have a flair for modernism that is influenced by architecture, the line up had a lot of embroideries, A-line midi dresses, prints, satins, patch works, skinny scarves, dramatic maxi skirt, column gowns all with colours that were either spicy or natural with graduating shades.
According to the designer,
“The colour palette was connected to sand and to the desert, it was very much about sunsets and spice and colours that recall turmeric, poppy, limoncello — we gave them all these yummy names.”
The lineup definitely was fun and it reigned strongly of practicality. There were even sprinkles of androgynous style with the sweatshirts, trench coats, and loose shirtings, however, she managed to balance the collection out to create that whimsy romantic feel with the delicate embroideries and layers of organza.
