London Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024 marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 40th anniversary, offering a week filled with the best and brightest talents in fashion. The event showcased a diverse array of designers, from emerging stars to established fashion houses. Renowned labels like Burberry shared the stage with rising talents such as Paolo Carzana, a recent semi-finalist of the LVMH Prize, and Central Saint Martins alumni Susan Fang and Aaron Esh.

In keeping with tradition, Burberry concluded the historic week with a spectacular runway show in a grand tent, evoking memories of the inaugural LFW venue. True to its heritage, the Burberry show featured the iconic Naomi Campbell, and models strutted to the tunes of Amy Winehouse.

Erdem Moralioglu drew inspiration from the late opera singer Maria Callas for his autumn/winter 2024 collection. Celebrating Callas’ “Greekness,” Moralioglu staged a dramatic show in an ancient Greek gallery at the British Museum. The collection featured opera coats, cocoon jackets, and separates adorned with ostrich feathers, competing for attention with pajama sets and printed cocktail dresses.

Meanwhile, Molly Goddard replaced corsets with elastic waists to cater to modern-day wearers. The show not only showcased an abundance of tulle and ruffles but also featured vintage-inspired shirts with a cowgirl vibe, paired with denim trousers or polka dot skirts. Beautiful rose-embellished knitwear, a category the designer has been successfully developing, was also part of the collection.

Elsewhere, JW Anderson’s collection exuded a sportswear vibe with outfits featuring tank tops paired with drawstring shorts, but the standout element was the exceptional knitwear. Known for his affinity for texture, Anderson treated knitted dresses almost like sculptures, incorporating knots, folds, and pleats. The cozy atmosphere extended to footwear, with sensible shearling boots, while some models sported curly, grey-haired wigs reminiscent of cute grandmas.
