Mavin Records first lady Tiwa Savage released her new EP, ‘Sugar Cane’ and it is dripping with so much sweet love that I’ve had it on repeat all day. The 6 tracks EP with a running time of just about 20 minutes is more of an expression of love and a documentation of feelings. Tiwa sings in breezy harmonies and riffs while alternating between English and Yoruba in such a way that would make you wish you were in love or have you going back on love’s memory lane.
According to Tiwa to The FADER over email,
“I actually never planned to release anything before my official album drops next year so this is a surprise for my fans, I have been in such a great space in the studio and I’ve been creating so much music so it felt right to put out this project. The title is Sugar cane because the music sounded different and sweet to me. With Afrobeat music, I can’t explain it in words you just have to listen and experience the magic.”
My favourite track would easily be ‘Ma Lo‘. The song has a way of growing on you as you keep listening to it. However, with lyrics like “You light up my world like the 4th of July, Na you wey dey burst all my medulla oh yeah” you can’t help but fall in love with the Sugar Cane track.

Alongside the project’s undeniable solo cuts, it also features Afropop stars like Wizkid and Maleek Berry with the EP also containing the previously released ‘All Over‘ a record which has become popular over time, powered by its passionate theme.
