Salomon Introduces the XT-EVO as Its Next Big Trail-Inspired Sneaker

Salomon is entering another chapter of its popular XT franchise with the arrival of the XT-EVO, a new silhouette that takes the technical character of the XT-6 and pushes it into a more sculptural direction. Designed around speed, movement, and exploration, the sneaker brings together familiar performance elements with a noticeably sharper and more futuristic aesthetic.

The timing also makes the release particularly interesting. Salomon expanded the XT family earlier this summer through a Kith collaboration, and only a few weeks later, the brand is preparing to introduce the new model as part of its mainline collection. With the XT-6 and XT-Whisper already established as major names in contemporary footwear, the latest addition could be positioning itself as Salomon’s next big sneaker.

A New Chapter for the XT Franchise

The XT series has developed a reputation for blending outdoor performance with fashion-forward design. What began as technical footwear has become a fixture in streetwear, with Salomon’s trail-inspired silhouettes increasingly appearing alongside everyday wardrobes.

The Salomon XT-EVO continues that progression without abandoning the qualities that made the franchise recognizable. Rather than simply updating the XT-6, Salomon has created a silhouette that interprets its performance DNA through different proportions, materials, and lines.

The result is a shoe that looks like it is constantly moving, even when standing still. Its upper uses sharper shapes and amplified layers to create a more aggressive profile, giving the sneaker a distinctly contemporary character.

Design Inspired by Speed

The design of the Salomon XT-EVO is heavily influenced by the visual language of racing and motion. Flowing lines travel across the upper, while the layered construction creates depth that changes depending on the angle from which the shoe is viewed.

One of the most recognizable details is the use of jumbo mesh, a material that has become closely associated with the XT family. Salomon keeps that familiar element but combines it with newly developed liquid rubber overlays. These overlays add texture and dimension while reinforcing the shoe’s fluid, technical appearance.

Instead of relying on nostalgia alone, Salomon uses those established XT elements as a foundation for something noticeably different. The combination of mesh, rubber, and sculpted layers gives the sneaker a stronger physical presence while maintaining a connection to the franchise’s trail-running roots.

A Nod to the XT-6

Although the Salomon XT-EVO introduces a new design direction, the brand has made its relationship with the XT-6 particularly clear through one of its launch colorways.

The “Black/Fiery Red/White” version references one of the original XT-6 color combinations, creating a visual link between the franchise’s earlier racing-inspired identity and its latest evolution. The red, black, and gray treatment gives the new silhouette a familiar starting point while the updated construction ensures that it does not simply look like a reworked XT-6.

Two additional colorways, “Black/Asphalt” and “Alloy/Castlerock/FTW Silver,” offer more understated alternatives. Together, the three options give the launch a balance between heritage, versatility, and experimentation.

Technical Performance Remains Central

Despite its fashion-forward appearance, the Salomon XT-EVO remains rooted in the technical foundations that have defined the XT family.

The sneaker features Salomon’s Agile Chassis System, which is designed to support stability and control across changing terrain. The platform also brings cushioning and durability into the equation, ensuring that the shoe’s sculptural exterior does not come at the expense of its functional identity.

That balance is important for Salomon. The XT franchise has become successful partly because its appeal extends beyond aesthetics. Its trail-running DNA gives the footwear a sense of purpose, while its increasingly expressive designs have helped it become a favorite in contemporary fashion.

Could This Be Salomon’s Next It-Sneaker?

The launch of the Salomon XT-EVO comes at an interesting moment for the brand. The XT-6 remains one of Salomon’s most recognizable models, while silhouettes such as the XT-Whisper have demonstrated how much room there is for the franchise to evolve.

The new sneaker appears to follow that same trajectory. It is familiar enough to be immediately recognizable as part of the XT family but different enough to stand apart from previous releases. That combination could make it especially appealing to both longtime Salomon fans and shoppers discovering the brand through fashion.

Salomon XT-EVO Release Details

The Salomon XT-EVO will launch globally through Salomon on September 2. The sneaker will retail for $200 and arrive in the three initial colorways mentioned above.

With its sharper proportions, layered upper, liquid rubber detailing, and connection to the XT-6, the model represents a significant new direction for one of Salomon’s most influential footwear franchises. Whether it becomes the next breakout sneaker remains to be seen, but the Salomon XT-EVO certainly gives the XT lineup a fresh reason to command attention.
