The world lost more than a music legend when Prince Rogers Nelson passed away on April 21, 2016, at 57. While there’s no doubting his contributions to modern music through his albums such as Purple Rain and Lovesexy, Prince was a cultural juggernaut in all aspects of the word, as he influenced millions through his artistry. Born and raised in Minneapolis, the songwriter, singer, dancer, producer, actor, filmmaker, one-man studio band, and consummate showman would have turned 62 on June 7. His flamboyance broke through the one-dimensional machoness of rock n’ roll and created a fashion icon that championed individuality and celebrated the differences the world at the time found too bizarre. Prince truly championed a revolution in the world of fashion that is felt to this day. Prince, The Singer

“Style is not lusting after someone because they’re cool, style is loving yourself till everyone else does too.”

-Prince

Before Prince died, he sold over 100 million records, won seven Grammys, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Prince Rogers Nelson recorded most of his music on his own, playing every instrument and singing every vocal line. Prince The Singer Prince’s death date. Prince birthday.

Prince’s music may have had a lasting influence among songwriters, producers, studio experimenters, and stage performers, but so did his eclectic, boundary-busting fashion sense and style choices. Prince Rogers Nelson

The musician championed the idea of gender fluidity and fundamentally changed perceptions of how men ought to dress. With Prince, there were no boundaries as he unconventionally wore high heels, lace gloves, sequins, tassels, feathers, color-block suits, ruffled shirts, high-waisted trousers, layered necklaces, and military-inspired tailoring. He was a man who embraced maximalism, and he did so unapologetically.

Prince’s style wasn’t just about what he wore; it was how he wore it. As he sang on Style in 1996, “Style is not lusting after someone because they’re cool, style is loving yourself till everyone else does too.” Prince death date. Prince birthday.
