Paris Fashion Week Men’s Fall/Winter 2024 painted the City of Lights in a kaleidoscope of contrasting hues, where whispers of understated luxury mingled with bold cries of avant-garde expression. It was a week that traversed the landscape of menswear, from the sun-kissed plains of Pharrell Williams’ American West at Louis Vuitton to the intimate salons of Rick Owens’ Parisian abode.

Chitose Abe, the mastermind behind Sacai, transformed the runway into a captivating battlefield of style. Her signature blend of tradition and avant-garde took root in pieces imbued with a dark, utilitarian edge, reminiscent of ancient warriors reimagined for the modern metropolis. Towering round sleeves, channeling the spirit of Japanese samurai armor, stood as the collection’s centerpiece, each crease and curve speaking volumes about Abe’s innovative reinterpretation of historical silhouettes.

On one end of the spectrum, Hermès and AMI serenaded the audience with a harmonious chorus of understated luxury. Hermès’ collection was a masterclass in muted tones and classic sophistication, where long leather coats and sumptuous knitwear whispered tales of refined elegance. AMI echoed this sentiment with impeccably tailored suits and trench coats in rich, earthy hues, each garment a testament to timeless Parisian chic.

But where some whispered, Balmain roared. Olivier Rousteing’s audacious return to menswear was a symphony of bold colors and flamboyant reimaginations of classic silhouettes. Sequined blazers shimmered under the spotlights, while oversized fur hats and chunky jewelry added a touch of opulent theatricality. The show culminated in a glorious finale, with the legendary Naomi Campbell gracing the runway in a crystal-encrusted ensemble that left no doubt about Balmain’s message: luxury can be unapologetically loud.

Rick Owens, ever the dark prince of fashion, painted the town red (or rather, black) with a collection that mixed gothic elements with a touch of the delightfully bizarre. Oversized rubber boots, described by Owens himself as “outlandishly proportioned,” added a touch of the surreal to the proceedings, while deconstructed tailoring and dramatic draping hinted at a darkly romantic undercurrent.

Paris Fashion Week Men’s Fall/Winter 2024, in its entirety, epitomized the dual nature of men’s luxury fashion, oscillating gracefully between the quietly sophisticated and the unapologetically extravagant.
