Just like a few other designers, Carly Cushnie also took the route of diversity as she released a collection with models in all shapes and sizes who took the runway in various bright hues to debut her highly-anticipated line. The luxe evening-centric brand which was formerly known as Cushnie et Ochs was rebranded in August to Cushnie after the founding partner Michelle Ochs left the company.
For its debut collection, Cushnie stuck to the brand’s aesthetics of creating sensual yet sophisticated dresses defined by daring, flawless cuts, cutouts in vibrant colours which are tailored to closely contour the body. According to the designer, the collection was inspired by the Jamaican culture of the late seventies and early eighties — from the vibrancy of the clothing to the lively, upbeat energy of the music that led the models down the runway.
From crystal-embellished mesh, beaded fringe to incredible embroidery details, the Cushnie SS19 collection featured dresses, jumpsuits, two-pieces and more in silhouettes that were thoughtfully constructed while remaining fashion-forward. The collection was no way boring as it features bold colour-blocking, contrasting stripes and a luxe iteration of knitted mesh. For the first time, the brand also introduced denim on the runway and the made in Italy, Cushnie handbag collection which features sleek gold hardware and is constructed in a soft calf, embossed leather and suede.
