The auction was conceived and driven by Streep herself, who led a similar effort following the original 2006 film. That sale benefited Dress for Success, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Equality Now. This one is built around press freedom and fashion’s future, a pairing that mirrors the sequel’s own narrative, which centres on the tenuous state of journalism.

The auction spans clothing, jewellery, accessories, and shoes, with an estimated total value exceeding $1 million. The standout pieces are specific and significant.
The Dries Van Noten tassel jacket worn by Streep’s Miranda Priestly during a staff meeting at Runway is among the auction’s most anticipated lots. It is the kind of piece that carries the film’s DNA in a single garment. Streep’s Miranda, wearing Dries Van Noten in a sequel released twenty years after the original, is already a statement. Owning the jacket is something else entirely.
Anne Hathaway’s Gabriela Hearst Niki dress, worn by Andy Sachs during a Hamptons scene in the film, will be offered with the stain it acquires during that sequence still on the fabric. That detail is either a flaw or a provenance marker depending on how you look at it. For anyone who watched the film, it is the latter.
Emily Blunt’s Elsa Peretti Bone Cuff, valued at $107,000, is among the highest-value single items in the sale. The Bad Binch TongTong by Terrence Zhou, black feathered hooded dress worn by Lady Gaga in the Runaway music video, is the piece most likely to generate the widest bidding interest outside traditional fashion circles. Lady Gaga’s involvement in the sequel made headlines from the moment her casting was confirmed, and the dress she wore in the video that accompanied her character’s arc is already a collector’s piece.
Other confirmed lots include Dolce and Gabbana pieces, a Fendi bag, a Schiaparelli dress, Valentino shoes, and the cerulean sweater worn by Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, a direct callback to one of the original film’s most quoted scenes, now worn by the same character two decades later.
The Exhibition, the NYFW Event, and How to Participate
A free public exhibition of the auction highlights will run at Christie’s New York, 20 Rockefeller Plaza, from September 8 to 13, running alongside the separate Handbags Online: The September Edit exhibition. No ticket is required. The exhibition gives anyone in New York the opportunity to see the pieces in person before bidding closes on September 15.
The auction also has an invitation-only component. On September 10, Christie’s will host a cocktail party and live charity auction during New York Fashion Week, at which additional fashion pieces and exclusive film-inspired luxury experiences will go under the hammer, with proceeds benefiting the CPJ and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund via the CFDA Foundation. Rachel Koffsky Parker, Christie’s International Head of Handbags, will serve as auctioneer for the live event.
