f you’re a TV buff, 2023 was a bit of a drag with all the production delays. But thankfully, 2024 is shaping up to be a banner year for television. From long-awaited returns to intriguing new limited series, the year promises no shortage of appointment viewing. Clear your calendars and get the popcorn ready, these are the seven shows we simply can’t wait to premiere in 2024.

Check out the top 7 most anticipated TV series of 2024…

#1. Bridgerton Season 3 (May 16, Netflix)

Lady Whistledown here with some positively thrilling news! After what felt like an eternity, viewers will finally see the courtship between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) unfold in Bridgerton’s third season. With the story centered around the fourth Bridgerton novel, “Romancing Mister Bridgerton,” we expect plenty of the steamy romance and scandalous intrigue that put the series on the map. And with additional cast newcomers taking the Ton by storm, we have no doubt the new episodes will leave us positively swooning! We’ll certainly be first in line with our dance card.

#2. House of the Dragon Season 2 (Summer, HBO)

Considering all the production turmoil of 2023, we breathe a fiery sigh of relief that this Game of Thrones prequel spin-off is dragon-riding back to our screens so soon. After that jaw-dropping, palace-storming finale, we’re chomping at the bit to see the fallout between the Targaryens and Hightowers.

With even more complex characters, high stakes, and sweeping visuals to come, Season 2 promises epic, binge-worthy television. We wouldn’t be surprised if HotD overtakes the Iron Throne of our favorite fantasy series. Winter might be over, but in Westeros, war is just beginning. If you loved GOT, then you can agree this spin-off is one of the most anticipated series of 2024. Grab your popcorn.

#3. The Penguin (2024, HBO Max)

Easily the highlight of last year’s dark blockbuster, The Batman was Colin Farrell’s spine-tingling turn as Oswald Cobblepot, better known as the Penguin. With his crooked teeth and raspy growl, Farrell disappeared completely into the Batman rogues’ gallery.

Now the vicious crime lord is waddling his way into his own sinister spinoff streaming series. Tracking Penguin’s bloody coup of Gotham’s underworld, expect plenty of seedy scheming, shocking violence, and another mesmerizing performance from Farrell. We can’t wait to see the Irishman reinvent Penguin and keep Gotham’s gritty world expanding.

#4. The Franchise (TBD, HBO)

In today’s superhero-saturated entertainment landscape, we could use some depowered heroes just for laughs. Thankfully, comedy veterans Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes are teaming up to spoof the spandex genre with their new series, The Franchise.

Tracking the manic production of the latest cookie-cutter superhero flick, it boasts a stellar cast including Billy Magnussen and Jessica Hynes. With Iannucci’s signature insult comedy colliding with Mendes’ sharp parodic eye, it promises a heroically hilarious takedown of Hollywood. Excelsior!

#5. True Detective: Night Country (January 14)

A long winter has passed since True Detective stunned critics with its mind-bending first season. Showrunner Nic Pizzolatto may be out, but the anthology crime series is back in a big way with season 4’s forbidden “Night Country” storyline. It is one of the most anticipated series of 2024 and promises extra drama to keep us all on edge.

With Dakota Fanning and Jodie Foster heading the cast as detectives investigating disappearances in the frozen Alaskan wilderness, this new mystery promises the same chilling atmosphere and haunting storytelling that put True Detective firmly on the map. If the early trailers showing vast snowscapes are any indication, we may just get the series’ freakiest season yet.

#6. Echo (January 10, Disney+)

After her debut stealing scenes in Hawkeye as the vicious gang leader Maya Lopez, Alaqua Cox returns to headline her own MCU series Echo. Going back to Maya’s origins and Native American roots, the gritty show sees the deaf antiheroine confront her past traumas, ancestors, and the Kingpin himself on a path to self-acceptance.

With fan excitement and controversy already swirling, Echo makes history centering on the MCU’s first deaf and Native superhero. Expect a personal comic book story as Cox breaks down barriers and brings her A-game against Vincent D’Onofrio’s imposing crime boss. This young hero could go echoing through the halls of Marvel fame.

#7. The Boys (Season 4, 2024)

Just when we think streaming antihero dramas can’t get any more debauched, The Boys smashes through with another wildly shocking season. As Homelander and Butcher amp up their unhinged feud, the series promises to lean hard into its trademark ultra-violence, raunchy satire, and bizarre superpowers.

Fresh blood gets injected with Jeffrey Dean Morgan of The Walking Dead playing another unethical maniac with abilities, because…well, just because. Strap in for the wildest, weirdest superpowered showdown yet.

We have a feeling things will get pumped as these most anticipated series of 2024 begin to unravel.
