Jay Manuel, Nikki Ogunnaike, Julia Sarr-Jamois And Others To Speak At GTBank Fshn Wknd

The GTBank Fshn Wknd is a consumer-focused fashion exhibition and capacity building event that aims to promote enterprise within the fast-growing Nigerian fashion industry. For 2018, the fashion weekend is scheduled to take place on the 10th and 11th of November at the GT Centre, Plot 1, Water Corporation Drive, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.
As is the tradition, there will be fashion masterclasses aimed at giving fashionpreneurs, fashion enthusiasts and fashion lovers the unique opportunity to learn from global industry leaders and experienced brands at no cost! The event is free, however, you are required to register to attend the masterclass.
This year, GTBank Fshn Wknd seem to have raised the bar higher with the calibre of speakers that will be hosting the masterclasses. Speakers from both the fashion and beauty industries across the globe are set to share industry knowledge, tips and more!
The runway show, on the other hand, is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, November 10, by 7:00 pm — 10:00 pm with designers like Ituen Basi, Gozel Green, Adama Paris, Taibo Bacar, LaQuan Smith, and Ji Won Choi amongst others showcasing their collections.
Meet some of the speakers…
Jay Manuel
He is the is the Founder and CEO of the beauty line, Jay Manuel Beauty. If you watched America’s Next Top Model, then you couldn’t have missed him as he was the creative director up until 2012. For the fashion weekend, he’ll be speaking on the topic – Discover You – In a World of Social Media and Noise.
Dapper Dan
Daniel Day who is popularly known as Dapper Dan will be sharing his insights on how you should be Making A Fashion Statement. He is a well-known fashion designer and haberdasher from Harlem, New York. His influential store, Dapper Dan’s Boutique, was mostly associated with introducing high fashion to the hip-hop world, with his clients over the years including Eric B. & Rakim, Salt-N-Pepa, LL Cool J, and Jay-Z. In 2017, he launched a fashion line with Gucci, with which he opened a second store and atelier, Dapper Dan’s of Harlem, in 2018.
Kahlana Barfield Brown
The fashion obsessive InStyle editor will be leading the discussion on Sticking To Your Plan A. Kahlana is also a Television Correspondent, a Creative and Brand Consultant and a leading fashion and beauty expert who inspires a new generation of women to embrace beauty from within.
Taofeek Abijako
Nigerian-born Taofeek Abijako is a young designer recognized for his ability to express social and political commentary through the lens of “luxe-street” clothing. Abijako’s brand, Head of State+, is a New York-based company that focuses on art, fashion, furniture and product design. The 20-year old designer is the youngest designer ever to show at New York Fashion Week, giving him widespread acclaim across the industry. He has received press coverage with renowned magazines and websites like the New York Times, Teen Vogue and i-D Magazine. Head of State+ is sold internationally in prominent stores like United Arrows, Assembly and American Rag Cie. He will be discussing Understanding the Industry: Starting Out.
Nikki Ogunnaike
Nikki Ogunnaike will be at the GTBank Fashion Weekend to discuss Diversity in Fashion. Being the Style Director at Elle, she is the go-to style expert for the 25 million+ users, fans and followers of what is now the largest fashion and beauty magazine website. She also represents the brand on television and in ELLE.com videos. Anytime you need a mix of style that is equal parts accessible and forward-thinking, Nikki is on it.
Julia Sarr-Jamois
The London-based stylist and Fashion Editor-at-Large at British Vogue will lead the discussion on Authenticity in Style and Global Fashion Trends. She is also the Senior Fashion Editor-at-Large at i-D, a contributor for Teen Vogue, Vogue Italia, Self Service, Double and M Le Monde. Julia regularly works with leading photographers such as Harley Weir, Zoe Ghertner, Angelo Pennetta, Letty Schmiterlow, Theo Wenner and Oliver Hadlee Pearch.
Julia’s work, which typically plays with unexpected clashes of texture and idiom, has also won her top commercial clients, such as Max Mara, Moschino, Kenzo, Lacoste, Carven, Nike, Stella McCartney and Sonia By Sonia Rykiel. She has also curated personal pop-up shops for British multinational, Topshop, which has over 400 shops across the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.
Naivasha Johnson
The New York-based hair stylist will be coming through for hair lovers as she shares professional tips on How to Express yourself through Hair. She is the hand behind some of the most iconic hairstyles ever seen on the red carpets. Naivasha specializes in natural hair, hair colour, wigs and men’s grooming. Her celebrity clientele includes Yara Shahidi, Sasha Lane, Uzo Aduba, Logan Browning, Lakeith Stanfield, John Legend and Common.
She has collaborated with top photographers such as Scott Trindle, Yelena Yemchuk, Nagi Sakai, Bruce Weber, Bjorn Iooss and Renell Medrano on shoots appearing in major publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, ELLE, W, Harper’s Bazaar and Allure.
