he distinct air associated with an incoming year often triggers the need for a clearer perception. It encourages individuals to make better decisions, including in the style department. Although last week was a bit slow on over-the-top attire (as many took steps back to review the outgoing year and plan for the new one), the offerings that made their way out were worthy enough to stop a scroll. From preppy takes to intriguing volumes, the ladies found a way to deliver on slay, maintaining an uncompromised approach to fashion while laying the foundation for 2024.
The Looks
Beyoncé succeeded in serving chic celebrity style all year long. For the most part of 2023, the mother-of-three gave metallics a run for its money. But she took a break last week to indulge in a neutral-toned Thom Browne preppy look. The plaid set, featuring a skater skirt and blazer, was styled with a white corset top, white GCDS pumps, and a matching structured Maison Margiela bag for a minimal vibe. Whatever the theme, Bey always comes correct.
For the celebrities who made it outside after matching PJs, embellishments ruled the scenes. The likes of Lizzo and Megan Thee Stallion found their magic in heavily bedazzled House of JMC numbers. Lizzo’s mix of studded crystals and tear-drop rhinestones brought an icy feel to the already freezing temps. Meanwhile, Megan’s play with textures was a sultry addition to our end-of-the-year mood. It seems the new year is up for its fair dose of glimmery fashion. Shine through queens.
Elsewhere, Coco Jones was a full ball of black sassiness in an elaborate Annakiki dress for her ABC performance on New Year’s Eve. The snatched bodice and voluminous skirt of the number struck a balance between graceful and sexy.
