1. Drake and 21 Savage announce collab album ‘Her Loss’

Drake and 21 Savage are ending October with a bang with the announcement of their joint album, “Her Loss.” On Saturday, October 22, the duo released the official music video for “Jimmy Cooks,” a track that lives on Drake’s “Honestly, Nevermind” album. The video complemented 21 Savage’s 30th birthday, which was on Saturday. As the video transitioned to its end, words in white font popped up, reading, “Her Loss, Album By Drake And 21 Savage, October 28, 2022.” A new instrumental was also sprinkled into the midst of the announcement.

The two artists—Drake, 35, and Savage, 30—are no strangers to collaborating. In 2016, they released “Sneakin,” in 2020, “Knife Talk,” and in 2021, they met up again for the second rendition of “Knife Talk.” Now they’re loading up an entire project together.

A post shared by Spotify Africa (@spotifyafrica)

Victony, the rising Nigerian artist and Spotify RADAR Africa alumnus, is releasing the first-ever Spotify Single from Nigeria, a cover of Davido’s “Dami Duro.” The cover, available exclusively on Spotify, is a disco-inspired take on the classic decade-old club banger by Davido. “Dami Duro,” the breakout smash by Davido, is a song that’s familiar to just about every Afrobeats fan. Released in 2012 on his debut album, “Omo Baba Olowo,” the track is still a staple at Afrobeats raves and club nights across Africa.

Speaking about the importance of the song, Victony says: “Dami Duro is a really beautiful song by Davido. My favorite part of the track is the hook. It’s very audacious, it’s so powerful. I really, really love that. With the Spotify Singles version, we wanted to do something really different to make it more of a classic and give it this disco feel – I’d say ‘Grandpa Ebelebe’ style.”

To celebrate the legacy of Nigeria’s rich music history, Spotify is unveiling reimagined renditions of what many consider modern-day Nigerian classics, performed by selected artists. A first for Spotify Africa, the covers reflect Spotify’s commitment to being the global hub for the discovery and growth of Nigerian music.

3. South Africa: Berita debunks ‘homeless’ claims

Afro-soul musician Berita said she is doing very well and is not homeless, as her estranged husband Nota Baloyi has claimed. Taking to her Twitter timeline on Thursday, the star shared a snap from her balcony, revealing that she has a home in a nice neighborhood. “I’ve got to say for someone who is apparently ‘homeless’ I’m doing really well. This is my view of Johannesburg from my apartment. God, music, and therapy have been my saviors. This too shall pass,” she tweeted

Two months ago, Berita asked her estranged husband to stop the social media trolling. The singer and songwriter said she was tired of the Twitter spats.

4. Kilimanjaro: Firefighters containing blaze on Tanzania mountain

Emergency workers battling to extinguish a fire on the slopes of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, have managed to contain parts of it, an official says. “We have seen great success in controlling the fire,” said Prof Eliamani Sedoyeka from Tanzania’s natural resources and tourism ministry. The fire started on Friday night near one of the mountain’s most popular climbing routes. It is not clear how the fire started.

Videos posted on social media on Saturday appeared to show large flames and a blanket of smoke engulfing parts of the forest surrounding the mountain. Hundreds of emergency workers and volunteers flocked to the site to help with efforts to contain the fire. Reports say around 500 people, including firefighters, national park staff, tour guides, and civilians, were said to be at the scene on Sunday.

5. Ronaldo heading towards ‘messy end’ to Man Utd career, warns Neville

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to be the main topic of discussion at Manchester United, and Gary Neville can only see one “messy” end to the saga. A very productive week for the Red Devils brought four points from games against Tottenham and Chelsea. Although, even in the aftermath of the late Casemiro-inspired draw at Stamford Bridge, Ronaldo still dominated all the conversation after being dropped for leaving Old Trafford early during the win over Spurs. Neville, who has often supported his former teammate, is struggling to defend his recent behavior and agrees with how Erik ten Hag has dealt with the situation.

“For me, Erik ten Hag had no choice, no option,” he said to the press. “Cristiano’s left the ground twice, you can’t do that, his Instagram post which said I respect my team-mates and sometimes in the heat of the moment you do something wrong. On the eve of pre-season, he asked for a transfer, he’s building up a list of things. It’s a messy end and Ten Hag is trying to establish control.”
