1. Coco Gauff And Naomi Osaka Off To The Third Round Of The US Open

Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka will renew one of tennis’s most memorable matchups when they face off in the fourth round of the U.S. Open on Monday, setting up a showdown between two past champions at Flushing Meadows. Both players booked their spots with straight-sets victories on Saturday—Gauff, seeded No. 3, cruised past No. 28 Magdalena Fręch 6-3, 6-1, while Osaka battled past No. 15 Daria Kasatkina 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the last 16 of a major for the first time since the 2021 Australian Open. Their upcoming clash is a rematch of their 2019 U.S. Open encounter, when Osaka, then the defending champion, defeated a 15-year-old Gauff and memorably consoled her during an emotional moment on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Six years later, both women have carved out remarkable legacies. Gauff, now 21, is a two-time Grand Slam winner and the reigning U.S. Open champion, while Osaka, 27, owns four majors and has been ranked world No. 1, all while becoming a leading voice on mental health in sports. “Naomi and I, we aren’t super close or anything, but we’re definitely friendly with each other,” Gauff said, reflecting on their bond. “I support her from afar in all the things that she’s done—on and off the court.” Osaka, meanwhile, welcomed the occasion, saying she views Gauff “kind of like a little sister.” With Gauff holding a 3-1 head-to-head edge since their first meeting, Monday’s match promises both history and high drama, with a quarterfinal berth on the line.

2. Adekunle Gold Announces London Concert With Full Orchestra At London Jazz Festival

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Adekunle Gold is set for a career-defining moment with the announcement of a special London concert. The “Party No Dey Stop” hitmaker revealed he will headline the Royal Festival Hall on November 23 as part of the prestigious EFG London Jazz Festival. In a bold post on X (formerly Twitter) on August 25, Adekunle Gold shared the striking event flyer and wrote: “LONDON • THE GREATEST SHOWMAN IS COMING. FULL ORCHESTRA NOV 23.” The one-night-only performance, officially titled Adekunle Gold with Guildhall Session Orchestra, will see him accompanied by a full orchestra in what promises to be a landmark showcase of his artistry.

Far from a typical Afrobeats show, the concert aims to merge Adekunle Gold’s signature blend of Afropop and global sounds with the grandeur of live orchestral arrangements. The announcement has already generated significant buzz among UK fans, many of whom are eager to experience familiar hits transformed through sweeping symphonic instrumentation. For Adekunle Gold, the event marks another milestone in his international rise, underscoring the global reach of Afrobeats on one of the world’s most iconic stages. Tickets are now available via the EFG London Jazz Festival website, with anticipation building for what could be one of the year’s most unmissable performances.

3. Donald Trump Seen Publicly For The First Time Amid Viral Death Rumors

Donald Trump made his first public appearance on Saturday, August 30, following viral online rumors about his health and false claims of his death. The 79-year-old president was seen departing the White House with his grandchildren, Kai, 18, and Spencer, 12, before heading to Trump National Golf Course in Sterling, Virginia. Dressed in a white polo shirt, black pants, and his signature red “Make America Great Again” cap, Trump appeared in good spirits as he joined his family for the outing. His motorcade was photographed leaving the South Lawn around 9 a.m., just a day after “Trump Is Dead” and “Where Is Trump?” trended on X, sparking widespread speculation.

The online frenzy was fueled in part by recent comments from Vice President J.D. Vance, who acknowledged being prepared to step in if “a terrible tragedy” ever befell the president but stressed that Trump remained in “good shape.” Concerns over Trump’s health had already circulated earlier in the week after images showed a bruise on his hand, which the White House attributed to frequent handshaking and routine aspirin use. White House physician Sean Barbarella previously confirmed that Trump also has chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in older adults, but emphasized that the president “remains in excellent health.” Saturday’s appearance was intended to project just that, underscoring Trump’s continued public presence amid speculation.

4. Tiwa Savage Denies Ever Trolling Wizkid Amid Fan Allegations

Afrobeats icons Tiwa Savage and Wizkid have once again found themselves at the center of online debate, this time over long-standing rumors of tension between the two. The conversation reignited after a fan accused Savage of trolling Wizkid in the past during a heated discussion among Starboy supporters on X (formerly Twitter). The claim prompted another fan to fact-check the allegation using Grok, the platform’s AI chatbot. The chatbot revealed there was no evidence to support the narrative. Savage herself quickly weighed in, writing: “Thank you o, I have never done that. But they have just ran with this narrative and I have just kept quiet,” effectively shutting down years of speculation.

The clarification comes after years of chatter surrounding the nature of Tiwa and Wizkid’s bond, ranging from rumored romance to whispers of a falling-out. Their relationship first ignited heavy speculation in 2018 following the release of Wizkid’s “Fever” music video, where Savage appeared as his leading lady, fueling talk of a secret romance. Both artists, however, have consistently denied being more than friends, framing their bond as one rooted in collaboration and mutual respect. With Savage’s latest statement, one of Afrobeats’ longest-running rumors may finally be put to rest.

5. Chelsea Complete £40m Signing Of Winger, Alejandro Garnacho From Manchester United

Chelsea have completed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United in a deal worth £40 million ($54m), with a 10 per cent sell-on clause included. The 21-year-old winger has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, becoming the latest addition to the Blues’ squad after summer arrivals Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Jorrel Hato. Garnacho’s move ends his three-year stint in United’s first team, where he broke through under Erik ten Hag but fell out of favour under current manager Ruben Amorim, who left him out of his plans for the 2025-26 campaign.

Speaking after sealing the move, Garnacho said joining Chelsea was a “special” moment for him and his family, adding: “I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special–we’re the best team in the world! It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.” Garnacho, who made his United debut against Chelsea in April 2022 and helped the Red Devils win both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, will now aim to revive his career in west London. Chelsea will return to action against Brentford on September 13 after the international break, while Manchester United face rivals Manchester City in the derby a day later.
