Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Mo Abudu are the only Nigerian women who made Forbes Magazine’s World’s Most Powerful Women 2023 list. The business trade publication dropped the list on Tuesday, December 5. According to the magazine, the women featured on the list were determined by “money, media, impact, and spheres of influence.”
With a career spanning 30 years, including a stint at the World Bank, Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, and currently the head of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Okonjo-Iweala has been vocal about how economies can become more inclusive when women’s unique experiences are considered in economic planning. Abudu is heralded in the magazine as a “media mogul and philanthropist.” As the founder of Ebony Life Media, she has been able to change the game in Nollywood with a slate of movies. Abudu and Okonjo-Iweala are currently working on a docuseries, “Black, Brilliant and Bold,” for Netflix.
2. A$AP Rocky stars in Bottega Veneta’s new paparazzi-inspired campaign
A$AP Rocky is the new face of Bottega Veneta’s pre-Spring 2024 campaign, and it’s giving everything it needs to give. The “Fashion Killa” rapper, known for his trendsetting style, revealed on Monday, December 4, in an Instagram post that he’s the star of Bottega Veneta’s newest collection. The campaign features candid images of the celebrity photographed in real-time to create a paparazzi feel. The photos, also licensed by the label, capture his recent outings while he’s dressed in the flyest Bottega Veneta menswear looks.
Rocky took to Instagram to share more details on the collaboration. Alongside Bottega Veneta creative director Matthieu Blazy and “the talented tabloid-style photographers involved,” they effortlessly brought the entire project, titled “READYMADE,” to life. In the collection of photos, we see the rapper running errands in a dapper suit that’s both tailored and oversized and shopping in West Hollywood in a vibrant orange trench coat; he’s proof that menswear style is still very much a thing. Only A$AP Rocky can jog in a Bottega Veneta leather tracksuit consisting of a $6,800 hoodie and $6,400 pants.

And now the lupus has gotten to a point where it’s effectively impossible to contain. And in order to free myself from the rollercoaster that is autoimmune disease, I have to let my emotions, thoughts and feelings out…. But…. Autism! OMG WTF THIS IS SO WACK 😭
— My name is MUNI (@munilong) December 3, 2023
Muni Long is being transparent about her health. On Sunday, December 3, the “Hrs & Hrs” singer took to social media with a candid post about her health. Last year, the Grammy winner revealed she has lupus, an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks healthy tissue in the body. She’s now revealed new health information. “So apparently I’m autistic, and my free self is the version of me that I began repressing at the age of 22 because it made people highly uncomfortable,” she said while suggesting both conditions are affected by each other. “It started first with me doing insane amounts of drugs and then when that didn’t work I just held it in. Which led to lupus.”
She continued, “And now the lupus has gotten to a point where it’s effectively impossible to contain. And in order to free myself from the rollercoaster that is autoimmune disease, I have to let my emotions, thoughts, and feelings out….” The Grammy winner added, “But at least knowing I am autistic explains SO MUCH.”
5. Erik ten Hag benches England star Rashford as Antony is given the nod for Chelsea showdown
🚨 Your #MUNCHE team news is in! 👊#MUFC || #PL
— Manchester United (@ManUtd) December 6, 2023
Out-of-form Marcus Rashford has been dropped by Erik ten Hag for their vital Premier League clash with Chelsea. He was dropped by United manager Ten Hag after his dismal performance against Newcastle. The beleaguered Dutchman has instead brought Antony into the team, with Alejandro Garnacho on the left flank. Center-back Raphael Varane, who has often been overlooked of late, is absent with a sore back.
Rashford has been on a dire run of goal-scoring form and has netted just twice in the Premier League all season, with just one of those strikes coming from open play. As a result, Ten Hag has opted to go for players who can bring more defensive solidity after being disappointed with the England international’s contribution against the Magpies. Ten Hag explained the decision, saying: “We play bad as a team, so we can’t blame individuals for it. It’s part of the rotation; we have a very good, energized front line and everyone needs to be ready as a team.”
