Lip balms are a lifesaver! However, there comes a time when applying lip balm to your lips is no longer enough as your lips are begging to be exfoliated. That’s where lip scrubs come in. They take off dead skin cells, restore the smoothness, softness, and suppleness of your lips, and let’s not forget the fact that they are easy and cheap to make if you want to DIY–homemade style!
Seeing as we will be in the drier weather conditions in a few months, the need for lip scrubs will be on the rise, and knowing you can DIY one in no time is a blessing. No one wants to walk around with lips that are chapped, flaky, and dry.
Even though you can whip up the perfect lip scrub with ingredients that you’ll easily find in your kitchen cabinet, it is still very important to know what ingredients are safe to use. It is advisable not to use fragrances, colorings, and essential oils as these may disrupt the outer skin layer leading to dryness, irritation, and rashes.
The key to the perfect lip scrub lies in its ingredients. Every lip scrub needs an exfoliant and a nourishing agent. Together, these two ingredients make the perfect scrub. For exfoliants, sugar and/or salt are your best options. Nourishing agents like natural oils such as almond, coconut, or jojoba oil are highly recommended for moisturizing. Also, honey has been known to have skin hydrating properties and is a great ingredient to consider. After exfoliation, lock in moisture with a protective lip balm and you are good to go.
Here are 5 simple DIY lip scrubs for you…

#2. Oatmeal lip scrub
