Last Week, The Best Dressed Stars Were Unapologetically Dazzling

Statement pieces, structured silhouettes, embellished details, snatched waists and impeccably laid edges defined the African fashion scene last week as the best-dressed ladies served bawdy full on! From celebrities to influencers to TV personalities, their glamorous looks were absolutely welcomed considering that we’re gradually recouping from a year with frivolity distinctly absent. African fashion style.

The looks

Nigerian style influencer Chioma Ikokwu, popularly known as Chioma Good Hair definitely knows how to sport an IT item or two. She has a known knack for singling out coveted form-fitting pieces and owning it long before it becomes a trend. Expectedly, she sparkled in a bejeweled custom number by Nigerian designer Matopeda for her birthday. The kind of patriotic birthday behavior we love to see.

In East Africa, it was glamour overload with Tanzanian artiste Mnyama Mkali as she looked every bit enchanting in a high-slit flowy dress by Allie Clothing. The blend of lush silk and iridescent shimmer triggered optimism in us and consequently, on all of our post-quarantine mood boards.

With positive spirits, we’re bracing ourselves to say farewell to wearing athleisure pieces (at least, for the most part) on Zoom, and saying hi to getting dolled up for in-person events. We are definitely not alone as Nigerian media star Beverly Osu bossed up in a classy suit look that reminded us that the world is back in business. It’s the boss chic vibe for us.

The styles shared by African women and top fashion influencers last week were nothing short of chic, edgy, and glamorous and it’s safe to say that we are, as usual, living vicariously through them.
