7 Fashion Trends That Will Be Huge In 2020

The best part about the fashion week shows is that they birth a host of new trends and the September 2019 SS20 shows did just that for the year 2020. As always, it’s never too early to adopt any of the trends in order to stay ahead of the game.

Whether you like to plan your wardrobe months in advance or just like to keep ahead of the trends, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for with this list. Other than the obvious trends involving short shorts and floral looks – after all, what is Spring without floral pieces – for 2020, you’d also be wearing a lot of ruffles, polka dots, crochet and more as dictated by the fashion week runways. These trends are all statement-making and SR-approved!

Here are the top 7 fashion trends to expect in 2020…

1. Crochet

Jonathan Simkhai

The knit style is definitely not going away in warmer months and for Spring and Summer 2020, this fashion trend is getting a cool update. Crochet is ideal to wear from the beach to the street. As the fashion industry looks for ways to become more sustainable, we get to realize that nothing beats a trend that embraces handmade techniques that can be passed down generation after generation. It’s time to let your crafty side shine through with knit dresses and separates.

2. Fringe

When it comes to added drama on an outfit, the fringe is definitely the go-to trend. The longer the fringe, the better with this trend. Plus, it’s just fun to twirl around in! From the SS20 fashion weeks, major brands are asking us to let it all hang loose in 2020.

3. Ruffles

Marc Jacobs

Ruffles popped up in a large number of 2020 collections. They are dainty, girl, edgy and fun but the unapologetic femininity of ruffles is the reason why they will be a major trend to look out for in 2020. Bold and large ruffles in all sorts of places on the body will be big fashion statements.

4. Puffy sleeves

Carolina Herrera

It’s time to make way for the puffed sleeve. It doesn’t matter whether the swell is focussed on your shoulder or more gradual down your arm, the puff is one style we can’t get enough of. This bold silhouette is popular now, but according to the runways it’ll be back bigger and better than ever come spring.

5. Pleats

Pyer Moss

Pleats are a trend that will always come and go. The best part about this fashion trend for 2020 is that you probably already have a pleated outfit in your wardrobe and so do not need to buy a new outfit unless you’re a pleat fanatic and want more of it!

6. Polka Dots

Carolina Herrera

Princess Diana’s influence on fashion continues as polka dots were spotted on the runway in refreshingly new shapes and sizes. For 2020, the playful print gets a grown-up twist with structured silhouettes and modern details. The polka dot being a classic and stable print is a trend that is showing no sign of slowing down so don’t put away your polka dot pieces just yet!

7. Corsets

Dion Lee

For Spring / Summer 2020, there will be a greater emphasis on defining one’s silhouette. This is where the corset comes into play. Just be ready to cinch everything in. Be sure to snatch that waist with sheer bodices, traditional boning, and more cinched styles!

Which of these trends are you looking to slay da heck out of?
