Disney+ has officially pulled the plug on “Wonder Man,” marking one of the more surprising reversals in Marvel Television’s recent history.
According to multiple reports, the studio decided not to move forward with season 2 despite announcing the renewal earlier this year. Sources familiar with the production said development never truly began, with no writers’ room assembled before the decision to end the series was made.

Shortly after news broke that “Wonder Man” had been canceled after its season 2 renewal, lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II addressed fans in an Instagram statement.
The actor thanked viewers who watched, supported, and shared the series, saying he was proud of what the cast and crew accomplished.
He added that seeing audience reactions online and receiving messages from fans confirmed that the series connected with viewers in meaningful ways. Abdul-Mateen concluded his message by expressing gratitude for the experience and looking ahead to the Emmy Awards, where he is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
His nomination also makes him the first live-action actor to earn Emmy recognition for both Marvel and DC performances following his previous win for HBO’s “Watchmen.”
A Strong Cast and Creative Team
“Wonder Man” starred Abdul-Mateen as aspiring actor Simon Williams alongside Ben Kingsley, who reprised his MCU role as Trevor Slattery.
The supporting cast included X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed, and Olivia Thirlby. The series was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, with Cretton directing the first two episodes while Guest served as showrunner.

Although “Wonder Man” has been canceled, the series was well received by critics.
It earned a 91% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers praising its fresh tone, sharp humor, and the chemistry between Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley.
The eight-episode season also made a brief appearance on Nielsen’s streaming rankings, debuting at No. 8 among streaming originals during its opening week after generating 618 million viewing minutes. However, the series dropped out of the Top 10 the following week, and Disney never released additional viewership figures.
While the audience numbers may not have matched Marvel’s biggest streaming hits, the show’s critical acclaim made its cancellation particularly surprising.
