Last Week’s Best Dressed Stars Played Checkmate On A Sartorial Board

Venice film festival best dressed

The past week saw the coolest stars heat up the city of Venice for the 81st Venice Film Festival (VFF), which kicked off on August 28. The red carpet was abuzz with drama and interesting silhouettes as the stars looked to statement pieces to match their peacocky vibe. Industry insiders and the paparazzi demanded over-the-top, and Black girls responded with presentations that dropped jaws. From Kelly Rowland’s rosette-detailed number to Madisin Rian’s figure-accenting embellished offering, ostentatious seemed the only logical thing to do.

The Looks

The opening night of the Venice Film Festival was a sight for sore eyes. All things extra, nothing basic. Taylor Russell indeed got the memo, parading in an elaborate Chanel dress. The deep neckline and corseted waistline blossomed into an abundance of ruffled floral lace, cascading into a sheer train. Opting for white shoes absolved any tendency of busyness, and the pixie cut was the perfect ally. The trendy florals injected its youthful allure, and the paparazzi certainly had a field day.

Again, sculpted, snatched, and glammed up was the only right way for reality stars to make an entrance at the Real Housewives of Dubai reunion. Lesa Milan, being and bringing the drama, chose to steal eyes in a Valdrin Sahiti masterpiece, eating and leaving no crumps. The mermaidcore-inspired sleeves were carved like sea shells, revealing a stunning neckline. Amped up with a sleek, wavy hairstyle, the look required little accessories to make an impact.

Finally, the Venice Film Festival was an outburst of draped numbers, with an endless list of celebrities experimenting with drapes, sleeves, necklines, elaborate skirts, and capes. Trust Robert Wun to present drapes in diverse representations and model Maria Borges to do justice in a brown mini dress with complementary sheer from the brand. Meanwhile, Jurnee Smollett also joined the drape train, strutting on the carpet in an off-the-shoulder purple number. The list of drape indulgences is endless, and with its malleability, it’s easy to manipulate into anything worth slaying in.
