1. Legendary singer Tina Turner dead at 83

Pioneering music legend Tina Turner has passed away at the age of 83. Known to many across the globe as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the “Proud Mary” singer died after a long illness at her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, according to reports. “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” her U.K. spokesperson, Bernard Doherty, said of the late icon in a statement. Turner previously had intestinal cancer and suffered a stroke, revealing in 2018 that her husband had donated a kidney to save her life as she contemplated assisted suicide. Her manager of 30 years, Roger Davies, called her “a unique and remarkable force of nature with her strength, incredible energy, and immense talent” and said he would miss her deeply. A cause of death has not yet been revealed. she’s survived by her two adoptive children with Ike Turner, from whom she’s been estranged.

2. Asake announces release date for second album

Asake is set to extend his incredible one-year run to a two-year run as he announces the impending release of his sophomore album “Work of Art.” Asake took to his social media to announce June 15 as the release date for his sophomore album in what comes as a big shock for fans. The fast-rising talent also excited fans with the release of a new single titled “Amapiano” featuring YBNL boss Olamide.

“Work Of Art” is set to be Asake’s second album in the space of 10 months as he continues the incredible run that has seen him become one of Afrobeats’ most prolific hitmakers since 2022. The upcoming release of the album is set to consolidate the success of his debut and establish him as a force in Afrobeats.

3. DJ Sbu on going global as he joins P Diddy’s Revolt TV network

Sbusiso “DJ Sbu” Leope is looking to amplify young talent in Africa as he joins forces with Sean “Diddy” Comb’s Revolt TV. His podcast “The Hustlers Corner Global” which focuses on personal development, hosting “hustlers” from different industries to inspire a new generation, was added to the Revolt TV network and is set to launch by the end of June. Having been in the entertainment business for more than two decades, Sbu said he never imagined he would be introduced to a global market in this way.

Towards the end of 2022, Sbu jetted off to the US, spending four months in the country. During his trip, he got to play an Amapiano mix on a popular show called Sway in The Morning and also had the opportunity to mingle with P Diddy’s partners who spoke about their vision to expand into Africa. Sbu said his followers have a lot to anticipate from him this year as he plans to release a book simultaneously with an album where he will be answering all the questions his fans have had about him.

4. Sean “Diddy” Combs launches Diddy Direct for retailers and consumers to easily purchase his spirits

On Tuesday, May 23, Sean “Diddy” Combs announced the launch of Diddy Direct, a platform created for retailers and consumers to conveniently locate, request, and purchase any Combs Spirits, which include all CÎROC Vodkas, CÎROC Spritz, CÎROC VS and DeLeón Tequila. “This platform is a game-changer for the spirits industry and we’re proud to offer consumers and retailers direct access to our portfolio of premium spirits,” Combs said in a press release.

“With Diddy Direct, we’re setting a new standard for direct-to-retailer and direct-to-consumer experiences and bringing the best of Combs Spirits directly to anyone, anywhere in the country.” This new venture continues to build on the mogul’s already-large portfolio of businesses under his Combs Global umbrella.

Lionel Messi wished Jordi Alba well after his former Barcelona team-mate announced he will leave the club this summer after 11 years at Camp Nou. The Catalan club confirmed on Wednesday that the 34-year-old will depart the club when his contract expires this summer. His long-time co-star Messi took to social media to pay tribute to the Spain international, wishing him success in his next move. “You were more than a team-mate, a true accomplice on the pitch… And how nice it is to also be able to enjoy how well we get along personally,” Messi wrote in an Instagram post.

“You know that I always wish you the best and also your family, I hope your new stage continues to bring you much success and joy. Thanks for everything, Jordi. A big hug!” The Barca legend joined the club from Valencia in 2012 and spent nine years playing alongside Messi until the Argentine’s departure in 2021.
