After recording an incredible feat with a NO. 3 peak position on the Billboard Hot 100, Rema has continued his fine run with Calm Down becoming the most played song on US radio. The smash hit reached the top of the Billboard Radio Chart after it garnered 97.68 million impressions in the United States which was sufficient for it to pip Miley Cyrus’s chart-topping hit “Flowers” to the top of the chart. Rema’s “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez had earlier made history after it became the first African song to reach the top of the US Pop radio.
It’s also the highest-charting Nigerian song on the Billboard Hot 100 and the second African song just behind South Africa’s Hugh Masekala’s 1968 record “Grazing In The Grass” which reached NO. 1 on the chart. Calm Down is projected to compete for the NO. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 next week as it continues its unprecedented rise.
2. 21 Savage hosts basketball camp for Atlanta kids on Father’s Day
21 Savage spent Father’s Day giving back to his community. On Sunday, June 18, the Grammy-nominated rapper and Leading By Example Foundation hosted a youth basketball camp for kids between the ages of 10 to 13 years old in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. According to a post on the Leading By Example Foundation’s Instagram page, the purpose of the event was to give aspiring athletes “the opportunity to improve their skills and learn the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.” The kids were coached by professional ballers, including rapper and Louisiana State University champion Flau’jae Johnson, Nassir Little from the Portland Trail Blazers, Jay Scrubb and Kevon Harris from the Orlando Magic, London Johnson from the NBA G League Team Ignite, and Saddiq Bey from the Atlanta Hawks.
The event was held in partnership with Freedom is a Choice Inc., a nonprofit organization with the mission of restoring, reuniting, and redirecting youth to build character and create a positive self-image. Leading By Example Foundation is a nonprofit organization that 21 Savage created in 2021 with hopes of preparing kids for their future by teaching them how to save and invest.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winner for Nigeria in a 3-2 win against Sierra Leone as the Super Eagles qualified for the 2023 AFCON finals. The Super Eagles of Nigeria opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Victor Osimhen. The in-form Napoli forward doubled up the visitors’ lead about 13 minutes later. But the hosts pulled one back before half-time and it was 26-year-old Mustapha Bundu who got Sierra Leone’s opener.
It took the Leone Stars some time to launch a fight back through Augustus Kargbo who struck in the 84th minute, and from there, the match looked set to finish in a two-all draw. But Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho had other plans as he scored in the dying moments of the referee’s optional time. The Super Eagles qualified for the 2023 AFCON finals after collecting nine points from five games which sees them at the top of Group C standings.
The Nigerians have won four of their five games, becoming one of the couples of sides to have already booked a ticket to next year’s finals to be staged in Ivory Coast. In their opening game, they beat Sierra Leone 2-1 before a 10-0 demolition job over Sao Tome and Principe. Nigeria, who have qualified alongside Guinea Bissau, will conclude their qualification in September when they host Sao Tome in their own backyard.
