NYFW: Kate Spade’s SS19 Collection Is A Modern Mix Of Reformed Sophistication

The history of the Kate Spade brand recently changed because of two things; the debut of a new creative director, Nicola Glass who took over from long time creative director Deborah Lloyd after she stepped down in November 2017, and the tragic untimely death of the company’s founder. However, the brand turned a new leaf on Day 2 of the ongoing New York Fashion Week with its presentation of a vivacious Spring/Summer 2019 collection.

During a pre-show interview, new director Nicola Glass spoke about taking a look at the past in creating a new pace for the brand. For the Kate Spade woman, her image has always been formed by a creative yet modern outlook. For her debut collection with the brand, Nicola’s designs drew energy from the power of unique colours and feminine floral prints.

Against a stunning purple backdrop, the models walked out in bold and bright colours with a fresh and spirited attitude and a not so overwhelming splash of floral patterns and prints that gave off a charming 70s’ vibe. Indeed, it is a new dawn for the Kate Spade brand.

Silk dresses, turtle neck blouses, maxi frocks and sling purses all with a distinct yet determined and subtle sensuality were among the pieces that made an appearance in the line-up. Also included in the collection was a range of trench coats that added a bit of a playful urban touch to the mix.

Overall, Kate Spade’s SS19 collection was a combination of classic glamour and functionality that would be impactful for any modern woman’s wardrobe.

Here’s a look at some of our favourite pieces from the collection…
