Nicki Minaj Fires Back After Trevor Noah’s Grammys Joke

Nicki Minaj has once again found herself at the center of controversy, this time following a joke made at her expense during the opening monologue of the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The rapper, who was not in attendance at the ceremony, took to X shortly after host Trevor Noah referenced her recent public support for U.S. President Donald Trump. What followed was a string of posts in which Minaj leveled accusations and conspiratorial claims against several high-profile figures in the entertainment industry.

The Joke That Sparked the Backlash

During the Grammys opening monologue, Noah noted Minaj’s absence before pivoting into a satirical bit tying her to Trump. Mimicking the president, he joked that Minaj was “still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues,” before delivering a punchline about who really has “the biggest ass.”

The moment drew loud reactions inside the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where Noah was hosting the Grammys for the sixth — and final — time. The comedian, who also served as an executive producer for the ceremony, largely avoided overt political commentary throughout the night. However, his opening set leaned into topical humor tied to current public discourse.

Minaj’s Online Response Escalates

Within hours, Minaj began posting a series of messages on X that quickly went viral. In multiple tweets, she accused Noah of hiding his sexuality, framing the claim as an allegation. She then turned her attention to Jay-Z, posting photos alongside captions implying inappropriate relationships involving underage women. These posts did not cite evidence and were presented as assertions rather than verified claims.

The tone of Minaj’s posts escalated further as she invoked conspiracy-laden rhetoric involving secret rituals, political parties, and industry-wide corruption. In one tweet, she alleged that unnamed figures in entertainment were involved in violent acts as a means of maintaining power. In another, she suggested that her projects had been deliberately sabotaged following comments she made about abuse she says she experienced.

Minaj also claimed she would not release new music until her recording contract is renegotiated and said ongoing investigations would expose what she described as sabotage tied to Billboard. None of these claims has been substantiated by public records or independent reporting.

Career Context and Industry Tensions

Minaj’s relationship with the Grammy Awards has long been contentious. Despite 12 career nominations, she has never won a Grammy. Her most recent nomination came in 2024 for “Barbie World,” a collaboration tied to Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film.

In recent years, Minaj has increasingly positioned herself as being at odds with industry institutions, often framing criticism or setbacks as coordinated efforts against her. The Grammy moment appears to have tapped into that broader narrative.

A Grammy Night Heavy on Commentary

Noah’s monologue set the tone for a ceremony that blended cultural reflection with political humor. He referenced shifts in American life since 1999, joked about celebrity culture, and made repeated quips about national politics throughout the night.

The ceremony also marked a transitional moment for the Recording Academy. This year’s broadcast was the final Grammys ceremony to air on CBS after more than five decades. Beginning next year, the awards will move to ABC under a new long-term deal with Disney, with streaming on Hulu and Disney+ starting in 2027.

Musically, Kendrick Lamar led the 2026 nominations with nine, followed by Lady Gaga with seven. Sabrina Carpenter and Bad Bunny each received six nominations, competing across several major categories.

Fallout Still Unfolding

As of now, neither Trevor Noah nor Jay-Z has publicly responded to Minaj’s posts. X has not indicated whether any action will be taken regarding the content, and Minaj has continued posting intermittently since the initial outburst.

What began as a late-night awards show joke has now turned into another chapter in Minaj’s increasingly public standoff with parts of the entertainment industry — one playing out, once again, in real time on social media.
