Africa is home to at least 30,500 kilometres of coastline which means it comes with an innumerable array of spectacular beaches. If you, like me, are a beach lover, choosing a beach vacation spot can sometimes be a daunting task with all the beaches out there in the world. For most people, the first place that comes to mind for beach vacations is the Caribbean. But how about considering fresh scenery? Why not think of African beaches?

From the North to the South, we’ve explored the hidden sea wonders nestled within Africa that are certainly worth a visit. While some of the names on this list may be familiar to you, others relatively unknown, talk about a hidden gem! These African beaches should be at the top of your next vacation list because why not? No, seriously, these beautiful beaches in Africa will make you want to call the continent home.

These crystalline waters of the Indian ocean are unbelievably enchanting, no wonder newlyweds often flock here for their honeymoon memories. If you’re a sucker for depths, then a trip underwater will certainly appeal to you as you dive or snorkel a vibrant reef with Napoleon wrasse, dolphins, whitetip reef sharks and a myriad of colorful tropical fish species.

#2. Anse Source D’Argent, Seychelles

There’s a reason Seychelles has always found its way into any global list of romantic destinations, and this beach is further proof of that. One of the island nation’s most famous beaches is Anse Source D’Argent, located on the island of La Digue. This addictive terrain of sun, sand, and sea is perhaps the archetypal paradise beach, with dramatic boulders, shallow turquoise waters and gently curving palm trees.

#3. Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt

This is a sheltered town on the edge of the desert offering some of the best beach fronts, diving trips, and all the amenities of some of the most upscale resorts in Egypt. The best part is that you get to have a view of the Red Sea all the while experiencing an unforgettable beach moment.

#4. Cap Skirring, Senegal

The beaches here are usually empty and have a way of making you feel like you’ve landed in a deserted paradise, albeit, one with luxury amenities. The calm aquamarine waters can be enjoyed on a kayak or sailboat. If you love fishing, then you can easily find a fishing guide and boat to feed your guilty pleasure.

#5. Nungwi beach, Tanzania

This is definitely one of the most beautiful beaches in Zanzibar. Formerly a simple fishing village, it has now become a popular holiday destination. The getaway is located on the northern tip of the island against a backdrop of swaying palm trees. Although there is no coral in the waters, the shallow sea still makes this place an ideal place for swimming.

#6. Banana beach, São Tomé and Príncipe

Another one of the most beautiful beaches in Africa, Banana beach is its country’s most famous beach. The luxury destination is undoubtedly perfect for swimming, with white sand curving in a banana shape around turquoise waters — hence its name. Banana beach, the jewel of the region, has no beach resorts and is mostly untouched. The only settlement is a small fishing village 10 minutes away and there are a good number of hotels not too far away from this jewel.

#7. Paternoster beach, South Africa

The laid-back fishing village boasts one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in all of  South Africa. The beauty of the beach lies in its white sands, spectacular sunsets, stunning west coast vegetation, charming fishing boats, and friendly residents.
