In December 2019, 26-year-old Zozibini Tunzi made history as the third South African woman to be crowned Miss Universe. With her win, 2019 became the year most notable pageant titles were won by black women. Coincidence? We can’t tell but we will take all the wins for the many years black women were denied a crown when they deserved to win.
During the Miss Universe pageant, Zozibini Tunzi won the hearts of many with her natural beauty as she promoted self-love, encouraged people to give women leadership opportunities and to teach girls the importance of taking up space.
Zozibini’s decision to rock her short natural haircut – instead of wearing a weave or wig – during the pageant instantly inspired other black women to embrace their natural hair and beauty. Talk about making an impact even before donning the crown. In truth, beauty has no defined look.
The spirit of advocacy is not all that there is to the Tsolo native as the girl has got amazing style too. One thing we can all agree on is the fact that she carries herself with so much poise and grace. It doesn’t matter whether she is styled in chic casual wear or elegant red carpet-worthy outfits, Zozibini carries every look with the kind of flair that’s only common to fashion icons.
Here are a few looks that prove Zozibini Tunzi is a fashion icon in the making…
She’s got the strut to match…
