MFW: Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2019 Collection Paraded Elegance

The Fall 2019 season of Milan Fashion Week rounded up with Dolce & Gabbana showcasing 127 beautiful designs in celebration of women. The collection which was dedicated to Italian elegance and famous Italian artists was rightly tagged ‘Eleganza’.

The show opened with a black-and-white video of the founders, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana and their studio assistants sketching, stitching, draping and fitting models in looks from the collection.

The collection was divided into a dozen or so sections – each one representative of one of the signatures the designers have developed over the past 36 years. The collection started with elegant suits topped with fedora hats or elaborately feathered fascinators worthy of a female Dashiell Hammett character then transitioned to chiffon and silk dresses or pantsuits with feather boa trim that exuded leisure.

In this collection, there was a deliberate focus on patterns, textiles and colour. Leopard, florals, houndstooth and Prince of Wales, jewel tones then brocades. The designers definitely sought to emphasize the brand’s luxury heritage and artisanal work.

The collection which also included an impressive five bridal looks also featured masculine tailoring ranging from the 1930s to 1960s with structured shoulders, accentuated waists and cigarette pants. They ended the collection with the brand’s true mainstay: beautifully tailored looks in black. The looks played on the classic, even stereotypical, roles of femininity.

Here’s a look at select pieces from the Dolce & Gabbana Eleganza collection…
