What better place than an airport to showcase a cruise collection? Louis Vuitton took to the TWA Flight Center at JFK airport in New York to showcase its Cruise 2020 collection. This makes the luxury house the first to hold an event at the midcentury architectural landmark since it closed in 2001 and will be reopened on the 15th of May.
The Louis Vuitton Cruise 2020 collection took things back to the 50s and 80s while playing around with art deco. The runway looks were simply breathtaking as is the case when art meets fashion. The models sashayed down the runway to the music originally scored for the video game ‘Final Fantasy VIII’ (FF8).
From pinstriped suits to high waisted trousers, sequined outfits, gorgeous bejewelled party dresses, biker-ready black leather skirts, cropped capes, corset hybrid tops, Bermuda shorts, and peplum skirts to shirtdresses, the LV Cruise 2020 collection definitely celebrated New York and the kind of fashion the city is known for.
Besides exaggerated shoulders and intricate detailing, Nicolas Ghesquière also took to the runway to launch prototypes of a new cutting-edge bag design which literally had TV screens on them. The brand has tagged this the canvas to the future and we couldn’t agree more. It has also been said that when the bags are released, users will be able to connect via WiFi and display content from a dedicated Louis Vuitton platform. How cool is that?
