For months, there were speculations about Shawn Stussy, the streetwear veteran, coming out of retirement to collaborate with Dior for the brand’s Men’s Fall 2020 collection. The rumours have been put to rest with the birth of a collection, which showed in Miami on the 3rd of December.
Kim Jones, Dior’s artistic director has been known to work with a new artist each season and for this season, Shawn Stussy was the guest artist and his contributions can be seen in the re-imagining of Dior’s namesake in his signature handwriting style, referring to the style as the “wave print.”
According to Shawn Stussy,
“When Kim approached me to have the talk and the option for my type of loose, organic human artwork to be taken to couture levels of technique and all was the intriguing part for me. It was a true collaboration. I turned [black and white line work] in and then they coloured it up. They already had their palette in mind, they knew it was Miami. And they saw this psychedelic kind of colours that you see.”
Kim Jones who recently won the Designer of the Year – Menswear at the British Fashion Awards released a menswear collection for Dior that made several bold fashion statements. The Dior Men’s 2020 Fall collection features superb cashmere tops in Stussy prints; dashing silk sports shirts in “tutti frutti” art deco colours; pony skin jerkins and python dusters and pants.
Beautiful beaded shirts that took the famed Dior atelier 260 hours to complete also graced the runway, and not leaving out Kim Jones’ signature wrap jacket with visible inner strap.
