1. Issa Rae opens new restaurant in South Los Angeles

Actress, producer, and entrepreneur Issa Rae has unveiled her latest venture, a new restaurant named Somerville, in the heart of South Los Angeles. Officially opened on November 22, Rae described the establishment as “an ode to the classic, artistic past of Black South Central L.A.,” highlighting the area’s rich cultural heritage. Somerville offers an upscale dining experience with a menu featuring signature dishes such as the Somerville burger, pan-seared Ora King salmon, and Mary’s organic roasted chicken. First-course options include duck confit and scallop crudo, complemented by a selection of steaks, charcuterie boards, handcrafted cocktails, and sparkling wines.

This isn’t Rae’s first foray into the culinary scene. The Insecure star previously co-founded Hilltop Kitchen + Coffee, which has grown to four locations across Los Angeles, and launched Viarae, her award-winning Prosecco brand. With Somerville, Rae aims to blend fine dining with the vibrant spirit of South L.A., creating a space for both locals and visitors to experience the area’s evolving food culture. The restaurant will operate from Wednesday to Sunday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., with reservations available on OpenTable.

2. Wizkid achieves career milestone on the UK Albums chart with “Morayo”

Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has reached a significant career milestone with his latest album “Morayo,” debuting at number 14 on the UK Official Albums Chart. The highly anticipated project, released in November 2024, marks the Nigerian artist’s highest-ever debut on the chart, surpassing the number 15 spot achieved by his globally acclaimed album “Made In Lagos.” With this achievement, Wizkid now boasts four entries on the prestigious UK chart, further solidifying his influence in the international music scene and showcasing the growing global appeal of Afrobeats.

“Morayo” has also been a commercial success on streaming platforms, setting a new record on Spotify for the highest first-week streams for an African album, surpassing the previous record held by South African artist Tyla.

3. Beyoncé’s publicist shuts down rumors that she’s going on tour following Netflix halftime show

Beyoncé’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, has denied rumors of a tour following the singer’s upcoming Christmas Day halftime performance at NRG Stadium. After Hits Daily Double speculated about a potential tour and The US Sun claimed she was planning overseas stadium shows, Noel-Schure addressed the reports on Twitter. “Untrue. Nothing to report here. Whenever there is any news, you will hear it directly from the source first,” she wrote, putting an end to the speculation.

Despite the denial, excitement is building for Beyoncé’s halftime show, which will stream live on Netflix during the Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens game. The performance will feature songs from “COWBOY CARTER,” her Grammy-nominated country album, with potential guest appearances from collaborators like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson. Though a tour isn’t on the horizon, fans can still enjoy the holiday spectacle from home.

4. Sinach breaks silence on N5b copyright lawsuit over hit song “Way Maker”

Nigerian gospel singer Sinach has finally addressed the N5 billion copyright infringement lawsuit filed against her by music producer Michael Oluwole, known professionally as Maye. The lawsuit, which has drawn significant attention, centers around Maye’s claim of co-ownership of Sinach’s globally acclaimed hit “Way Maker.” Maye alleges that his involvement in the production of the 2016 song entitles him to co-ownership and is demanding N5 billion in damages. However, Sinach dismissed the claim, clarifying that Maye’s role was limited to mixing the track, for which he was paid ₦150,000 (approximately $300) at the time.

The copyright dispute has ignited widespread debate on social media, with many fans rallying behind Sinach. “Way Maker,” which has been translated into multiple languages and performed by top gospel artists worldwide, continues to be a global anthem of faith and hope. Despite the ongoing legal battle, Sinach remains confident in her ownership of the song. The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the case until January 29 and 30, 2025, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this high-profile legal saga.

5. Vincent Kompany gives Harry Kane injury update

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has provided an injury update on Harry Kane after the striker limped off during the club’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund. Kane appeared to suffer a thigh injury just past the hour mark, raising concerns about his fitness. “Harry said it’s not too bad. Hopefully that’s the case. We’ll have the tests today and let’s see what happens,” Kompany said, acknowledging the worry from fans.

Kompany admitted that Kane’s participation in Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal clash with Bayer Leverkusen is uncertain. “It will be tight. I don’t know many players who recover in such a short time,” he noted. Kane, who recently became the fastest player to score 50 Bundesliga goals, has been vital to Bayern’s success, and the team will be hoping his injury is minor as they chase silverware after a trophyless 2023/24 season.
