How Tracee Ellis Ross Shared Her Spotlight With Black Designers As She Hosted The AMAs

The second time was quite the charm as returnee American Music Awards host Tracee Ellis Ross delivered the most rave-worthy fashion moments ever as she hosted the 2018 American Music Awards, yesterday, at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. As with everything Tracee Ellis Ross, her statement wasn’t just for attraction but it was a non-spoken speech about diversity, culture, community and this time in collaboration with her stylist Karla Welch, the duo were able to incorporate ten stunning looks into the show as a part of  Tracee’s stance on supporting African-American fashion brands.

The star used her platform to shed light on the talent of black designers, even though not all of the pieces she wore were unknown to the high fashion world. She moved around spotting looks from popular designers like Olivier Rousteing and Virgil Abloh and less popular ones like Dèshon or Lavie by CK. Her first look, a light pink power suit that was designed by the founder of Kerby JeanRaymond Pyer Moss, a men and women’s wear brand that has been known to embrace activism through collections and the use of the runway. This look was just powerful and the perfect choice to start the evening.

For the closing, however, she went with a look that payed attention to her figure; a red off-the-shoulder jumpsuit by Cushnie, as she joined CeCe Winans and the Campbell sisters Erica and Tina, following their tribute to legend, Aretha Franklin (RIP).

Tracee’s looks were dramatic, fun, flirty, audacious, structured and breathtakingly tribal, but you can only fully relate by checking out the ensembles.

Here’s a look at Tracee’s stunning looks from the just concluded AMAs…
